Bazza Smurf
Gas prices expected to be lowered. Electricity (generated by gas) WILL rise. Question is why? I assume either to pay for the unnecessary meters or to force us to 'smarter living'. Apologies if the increase has been posted elsewhere. https://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/politics/electricity-prices-will-go-up-substantially-chief-minister-warns-594735

I am not convinced. I will get some charts, do some comparisons and come back, unless of course you are sure you're answer is 100% correct as in it wasn't the first thing that came into your head. As we learned with gas several reasons need exploring as to who is paying what and when. The biggest customer of electricity on this island will be the Government itself. Will their electricity bills be rising also at the hospital, Government buildings etc. No answer is ever straightforward when it comes to energy. There are too many other factors to consider.

Prices are certainly falling elsewhere. I did a 12 month fix in August 2021 with my Catalan supplier. They transferred me onto their standard tariff in August 2022. There weren’t any decent fixes at that time. Best I could get was €0.275 for 2 years. Didn’t want to commit to that as I expected prices to fall. So it went from €0.1667 per kWh to nearly €0.4. The 0.1667 was average. The day was split into standard, peak and off peak, 8 hours of each per day and weekends all off peak. I’ve shopped around this last week. I can get €0.16 flat rate, no different, time sensitive, charging periods, or €0.179 flat rate, but I get to choose 6 weeks (45 days ) a year when they’ll supply free as a signing on bonus. I’ve chosen second half August and all September for my free period as that’s when the place is full of family and visitors burning electric for pool pump and filter, jacuzzi and Aircon. Only thing now is whether to sign up for 12 or 24 months.

I've been there. I am very well travelled. I'm allowed a bit of silliness now and again as indeed are you. 👍
