18 million. £18,000,000 of taxpayers money. Our money. Our kids future money. What is there not to like?

Apologies there is nothing to like. Normal wasting of other people's money that would never have happed in the private sector. Rip out perfectly good meters and bin them. What's green about that? Same as Douglas Corporation ripping out thousands of working street light heads and replacing then for led. Why not simply wait till the damned things stop working? P!ss money away like there is no tomorrow.

I wouldn't mind but since they have replaced the street lights on the promenade ,  you need a torch to see where you are going ,  the lighting  with the 3 legs emblems  they replaced  was much better and unique  to Douglas ,

spending ratepayers money just for the sake of it !

or whatever wireless CMS sytem it is.

Had a demo where they geolocate each lamppost so it can report a failure back to base on a map and also dim down the lighting between midnight and dawn to save energy costs.

RTC seem to have the wait til it fails replacement philosophy judging by the mixture they have about town.

IoT. Internet of things. Clever stuff

The LoRaWAN protocol is a Low Power Wide Area Networking (LPWAN) communication protocol that functions on LoRa. The LoRaWAN specification is open so anyone can set up and operate a LoRa network. LoRa is a wireless audio frequency technology that operates in a license-free radio frequency spectrum.

Why should I have to download an app, same as the car parking down the airport. Why should we have to rely on a third party technology.

How hard would it of been to include a dial, bet they never inquired some snake oil salesman Oh this is the way to go. £200,000 and  £70,000 a year for the soft ware. Thank you very much, hope you all enjoyed the trip and the lunch to see it in action

You think the MUA have sufficient clout to have a firm produce meters to their own spec 😂. They have to buy what is available in the market that will be reliable and be serviceable for as long as possible, at the lowest price point.

They are possibly the smallest customer a meter manufacturer will ever deal with.  They are probably more of a pain the the ass than a valued customer the volumes are so low, likely needing as much support and assistance as bigger clients who buy more than a hundred times the volume.  I am surprised they found anyone prepared to take on the hassle!

People who make these arguments are often the same ones bashing the Steam Packet for not using off the self parts for the new boat.

Blame google.  Nobody else.

Get an iPhone or use a VPN to download it, or search for the APK.

Same as many apps on android.  If you buy an android phone on island you should be well aware of the limitations and workarounds

Blame Google? It's Manx telecom you should be directing your dissatisfaction at!

Wrong.  Manx telecom have been trying to get google (who are the only people who can fix it) to rectify this issue for over a decade.

They don’t care.  We are a poxy little island of no consequence to them.
