They have to buy what is available in the market that will be reliable and be serviceable for as long as possible, at the lowest price point. They are possibly the smallest customer a meter manufacturer will ever deal with. They are probably more of a pain the the ass than a valued customer the volumes are so low, likely needing as much support and assistance as bigger clients who buy more than a hundred times the volume. I am surprised they found anyone prepared to take on the hassle! People who make these arguments are often the same ones bashing the Steam Packet for not using off the self parts for the new boat. Manx telecom have been trying to get google (who are the only people who can fix it) to rectify this issue for over a decade. They don’t care. We are a poxy little island of no consequence to them.
