Define safe, it assumes you 'know the risks' and have the capability to respond to unforseen events, you will say you are safe but thats opinion / bravado  not fact. Driving a car at 40 miles per hour is safer than 60 so 60 is less safe.

Any speed is unsafe if you have a total knob doing 60 towards you in your lane, because its the only thrill they can get other than kiddieporn.

Studies by the UK Department for Transport clearly show old people are a high risk, and should not be on the roads at any speed it should not be an old persons choice to stop driving when they finally realise they are incapable any more than a drink driver should make that call.

Take the keys off them at 65 and give then a free bus pass.

I suppose I wrongly presumed that you were tolerant of a very small level of risk, below which your only option really is never to leave the house. You'll die of that too, mind.

The competition to play Manx Forums Panto dame is really hotting up!

Public roads are just that for the public that's what we pay for through taxation, not a race track for saddo's to go have a little thrill whilst risking others lives. No individual should make a decision as to what speed they think is safe, it should be capped and enforced in law on a public road.

Want to race and prove your strength and ability on public roads, try the santa dash.

What a load of cock!

Every individual road user has to constantly decide what speed they think is safe, given the situation they are in. One can never rely on an enforced limit because it is very often inappropriate for the situation.

What the heck are you thinking? On the pop early today?

I have got a sack load of cotton wool and some wrapping tape. You are welcome to it.

The reality is that what you are seeking to happen will never happen. Life has risks. If it didn't it wouldn't be worth living. IMO of course.

Like I said earlier in the thread, there's a terrible tendency to talk in extreme stereotypes here. The numbers you've quoted just aren't not borne out by the actual accident statistics for Spain at all, you just made it up. In any case, the IOM could only dream of the numbers of pissed-up tourists that turn the Costas into a Sun-reading Sol-swilling free-for all, so it's not exactly likely to happen here.  Describing people as "vandals" who have "no regard for pedestrians or other road users" because they happen to ride a mode of transport that you don't like is a bit nuts though. As far as I know there aren't many e-scooters that come with a mandatory brain implant that induces psychosis and a lack of self-preservation. I think that only comes with Audis.

Errrrr....

There are acceptable risks and unacceptable risks. I take plenty risks just not with other peoples lives. We are talking about public roads here that serve a purpose, want to go play vrum vrum with your cars, go fund a race track.

Old people driving cars at any speed when they don't have the faculties to react to issues is an unacceptable risk, whether you face up to reality or not they should have the keys removed.

You really are a first class prat

When will you be a pensioner?  Hope you live on a bus route unlike many.

What about “boy racers”?

Calm down grandpa,

I live a few minutes from a bus route, like most, it was part of the choices you make when buying a house, when I get older I may move further in to town if that's more practical. If you live somewhere not practical perhaps move Saddle Mews might be a good call or try Ramsey old people love it there mainly on the flat.

no intention of stopping work as I love it.

Bit sexist with the 'boy racer' thing, but young people are sharper with faster reactions, driving like a prat is a problem that needs to be addressed in all ages with GPS tagging, but an old codger in charge of a few tonnes of steel on a public road with real lives at risk, nah.

I’d place a significant wager that despite my senility I can kick your fast reactions arse on a trackday, but since that would involve letting you drive one of my fast cars rather your mum’s Nissan Micra, it’s never going to happen.

This is a strange thing for someone who's shitting the bed over the thought of 60mph to say. Almost every western country allows you to do 60mph legally.
