But to what end? UK budget October 2024 for 25/26 financial year. Manx budget March 2025 for 25/26 financial year. Are you suggesting that 5 months isn’t enough to model short term.

Brains of Mann, Treasury Minister Allinson has been on the NPM telling us that the Treasury will assess the impact of the UK budget on the Island. The Treasury should be modelling several scenarios before the budget, then assess impacts after it’s been announced. From the NPM -

The last couple of years have been challenging, and I don't see that ending soon", says minister

The treasury minister believes the next couple of years 'will be challenging', and that many governments across Western Europe are facing similar difficulties.

Earlier this week, UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer warned of a 'painful' autumn budget but insists his election pledge not to hike VAT or National Insurance would be kept.

Minister Dr Alex Allinson says the Manx government will continue to monitor the situation but notes fiscal decisions made in Westminster can still directly impact the Island.

But he remains optimistic, telling Manx Radio the Isle of Man has a "very resilient economy":

They could get Sir Keir Starmer's name right.

Don't worry, McVey's on it. And amazingly still hasn't deleted this.

Not sure quoting a holocaust poem will gain much support except from farage supporters.

It has not gone down well with several prominent Jewish groups, some of which have made public statements.

She’s truncated it a bit as well. Weird comparison

Niemöller actually wrote

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

@Banker it’s not necessarily a Holocaust poem. It’s about anyone, possibly in a minority, who keeps their head down and doesn’t act in solidarity when the rights of other minorities are infringed.

Double down on it! Lol.

Ah, the outcome of a private education in UK is just as likely to produce English politicians with a vacuum between their ears as KWC and Manx politicians.

And she manages to deflect attention away from labour and back to her, and her party. What a moronic tweet.

Jess Phillips comments about her hospital visit not the brightest, either. But then, she did compare the awful events on new years eve in cologne a few years ago to wolf whistling.

Absolutely nowhere to turn to.

Whilst we are all busy worrying about the finer points of what some politician meant when quoting (badly) a poem intended to raise awareness of the problem of not speaking up for others, our liberties are being eroded by a government intent on crushing dissent!

The mooted 'non-crime hate' laws should worry everyone. Next time the right get in, they may decide the things YOU think are common sense are hateful.

McVey is (and always has been) a splendid example of just how dim, self-obsessed and simply unpleasant you can be and still do very well in both the media and politics in Britain - in so far as those are separate things nowadays.  Having the right connections helps of course, if you look at why most people get attacked in the media, the reasons boil down to "Not being one of our mates" while mates' horrendous behaviour gets ignored.  But increasingly being dim, self-obsessed and simply unpleasant are the only qualities that are deemed acceptable in that world.  Anyone with intelligence or who genuinely cares about other people is regarded with suspicion at best.

That said McVey is mostly being attacked for the wrong reasons here. She's not wrong because it's insensitive (though it is) or a wildly disproportionate reaction (obviously so) but because it's hypocritical.  She'd be ecstatic if if they came for Communists, Socialists and trade unionists and has spent her time  in Parliament voting to restrict liberties along with the rest of her Party.  She's just demanding that everyone else support her to do whatever she wants, while no one else gets support in return - quite the opposite.

Which of course is the point that Niemoller was making.  But she's too dim and self-obsessed to realise.
