Sounds suspect - akin to cold calling. Have those making the allegations reported this to the police? I doubt that Island Energy would be that stupid, to possibly act in an intimidating manner? Our politicos mean while wouldn’t bat an eyelid, especially Ramseys MHKs.

It's not cold calling if they're not selling anything

Jason Moorehouse MHK he is pleased by the response by Island Energy. So presumably he think it’s all his doing? I doubt it, as I don’t believe that Island Energy take any real notice of anyone, the regulator or politicos. They are a law unto themselves, which has been tolerated by the regulator and politicos as they don’t know how to effectively deal with this problem. Jason Moorehouse also urges those who owe Island Energy to pay what they can - so if you can’t communicate, Island Energy won’t respond to email queries and you genuinely dispute the billing, are you supposed to give in and pay the amount, then hope that in the future you are proved right, and it turns up you are entitled to a refund of overpaid monies - due to an administrative error? Then you will have a long wait for a refund.

It was Moorhouse who put down an Urgent Question that was the first item for debate on Tuesday, technically to the Chair of the OFT: What discussions have taken place with Isle of Man Energy about any plans they may have to turn off people’s gas in the coming days; how many people are likely to be affected; and what power the OFT has to ensure that people either remain connected or can be reconnected.

So it's possible that it might have stirred OFT and also Cannan into at least looking as if they were doing something about it.  Certainly they issued a press release the same day:

Pause in gas disconnections agreed following constructive talks

Isle of Man Energy has agreed to a short pause in gas disconnections for domestic customers who are in debt and struggling to pay their bills.

It follows constructive talks held yesterday between Isle of Man Energy and the Office of Fair Trading as well as a subsequent meeting with the Chief Minister Alfred Cannan MHK.

The pause will give time for the Office of Fair Trading to review a number of cases lodged by Isle of Man Energy customers who have raised concerns around disconnection.

Isle of Man Energy has also made a commitment not to disconnect vulnerable customers who are on the company’s Priority Care Register and to ensure those who may be struggling are signposted to appropriate support.

Isle of Man Energy has also committed to review and update its disconnection policy, which will be published shortly.

Isle of Man Energy and the Isle of Man Government will continue to monitor the situation closely and will meet again to review the developments.

Of course this doesn't answer all the questions and how reliable a promise from them will be is another issue.  As for Moorhouse's advice that people "do what they can to pay off their debt in the meantime" if you listen to the clip, he did make clear that it applied to those "who do owe money" who should look for a solution.  Those who don't, despite what the firm says, should presumably continue to cause a ruckus.
