and what happens if the Mylchreests  site gets developed , ? what do you do with the cars then  better to have  them catered for in the first place and on site

There are absolutely no plans to develop it !! It’s about 100 yards away!!

It depends where your priorities lie houses for people or spending fortunes so people can have their cars on their doorstep.

If parking is not provided then there will be even more street parking. Already a significant problem in Douglas - it clogs up the roads. The only way not building parking works is if all street parking is outlawed.

edit - people could rent a car parking space if they do not have a drive, for example.

you don't lose any apartments if you just build a floor taller,  is there some height restriction  in douglas ?

Well they won’t want or be allowed to build higher than existing nurses home building so it’s a non starter plus the extra costs would be massive

I have a car on a driveway.    A driveway was a consideration when we bought the house years ago because we have always had a car if you drive then it makes sense to live somewhere with parking or be prepared to walk to where ever you can safely and lawfully park.

Most of the parking at Mylchreests will be linked to existing  planning permission in the finance sector where office developments have taken place with out  the required on site  parking spaces , you cant  use the same spaces twice  it contravenes planning law !

Isn't there is an 'out' that if developers don't put in the appropriate number of parking spaces on one development they can correct the deficiency  by creating  more on another development so the total equals the overall requirements.

Who said anything about using a space twice? I’m sure there’s spaces available for lease if required .

Yes we know, it’s available as contract parking but you don’t have to be an office worker to lease one as far as i know

There is another point, when I was young anyone rich enough to buy a car would either have a house with a garage or rent a garage to keep it in after all after a house a car is possibly the next expensive commodity you will buy but now around my neck of the woods no one keeps their cars in their garages they are either on their drives or on the road the reason being the garages are too small with the growing width of cars.
