It may not be a question of what it needs to spend (going forward). It's more like what it's already spent, in terms of accrued debt and liabilities.

Government Debt is hanging like an albatross around the neck of the people of the isle of man  just in the last couple of years they have added half a billion pounds to that ,and there is the pension black hole to service as well  we are heading for deep trouble unless someone gets a grip ,and the island goes back to  a situation where government is there  to encourage business and provide services that are  efficient ,well run , and not self serving !

Maybe out tax retruns could have an addendum with "Pick one of the following non-essential projects with budget" and let the taxpayers decide. Most votes wins and the rest get binned.

After all unlike the UK, everyone here has to submit a return every single year. In the UK if your sole income is from PAYE you don't have to submit one unless there are significant changes, other incomes or complexity like shares, dividends etc.

Could probably half the headcount on one floor of CGO with that alone.

If they want a bridge over the glen so bad why don't they do as Ramsey Pier did and get off their lycra clad arses and do something themselves. Get the cycle shops etc. to invest/sponsor and have volunteers etc. They can pay for the upkeep too.

I'm not aware of any cycling groups that are lobbying or demanding these bridges and cycle lanes.  Sure, it's possible they might be good and used extensively; however looking at the recently presented cycle lanes, they would somehow prove to actually be more dangerous or a waste of time for cyclists.  I think you'll find that this is yet another Govt grandiose pet project and the majority of cyclists would actually prefer the money be used on a functioning health or education system.

Ronaldsway is now the main hub for the arrivals of high rollers from all over the world. Andreas has also been redeveloped to handle the extra capacity.

The island has rebranded as a Celtic playground. Much of Old Douglas has been flattened to accommodate the world’s biggest 24 hour casino, offering more favorable stakes than anywhere else in the world. A number of major 5 star hotels have also been built. The population has now grown to 100,000, mainly to service the thousands of jobs that came with the changes.

Health tourism is big business, with the best surgeons in the world taking residency, attracted by the world class facilities which were funded by the government’s insistence on investment as a condition of the casino license.

drugs have been widely legalized, and whilst this does bring some issues with it, the tourism take has massively increased. Other issues such as vice do prevail, but a well funded police service has this under control.

Public transport is free, and personal taxation has reduced to 7.5% on all earnings. The education system has transformed with wholesale adoption of the Baccalaureate.

All great ideas Derek, the same have been floating in and out of my mind recently, a mini Las Vegas, and why not!! Nothing else works!

Mind you, apart from in our LSD addled minds, can you imagine anyone in our establishments even thinking along similar lines!
The Methodist mentality must be diminishing by now?

Have you gotten confused between 'the Old Man (and) the Sea' and 'The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner'?

That'll be the revenue from Crogga then?

Clearly he has, but Muphry's Law obliges me to point out that it's actually The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.  Though apparently Coleridge originally wanted to call it The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere, so I suppose we got off lightly.
