Banker
Perhaps we should just ban electric vehicles in view of fire risks 😂 The Facebook mob are out in force demanding they’re banned from steam packet vessels!! https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/electric-vehicle-fires-particularly-hazardous-says-fire-service/

Major Rushen
Yes they will have to be on the outside deck so they can be tipped overboard.

Seems like a sensible solution. You'd need a forklift handy. Seacat doesn't have external deck, does the manxman? Maybe you could just load them last so open the doors and push them off? forestboy
It will be interesting 🧐 to know what provisions the Steam Packet have in place re loading of EVs and possible fire.
TheTeapot
Quote 4 A trebuchet on a ship is entirely possible. The key benefit is that since trebuchet is a counterweight engine, it can be built to be powerful without shaking the ship apart when it is fired. The downside is that since it is a counterweight engine, it introduces large moving masses to something already unstable. Trebuchets also need to be relatively large to make sense.

The fire management for an EV is basically keep cooling the battery until the cells run out of energy to keep the chain reaction going. The challenge with EV fires is enough water to offer that. Fortunately, boats, by their nature, are surrounded by the stuff. Though, the neighbouring cars may not appreciate a sea water drenching from a fire pump. It’s also worth mentioning that the most likely times for a thermal runaway (fire), are when the battery is actively being charged or discharged. Though, some ferries now even offer EV charging on board, so clearly they don’t perceive the risk as too great.

cissolt
Second term road repair? Seems quite common for MHKs to get their road fixed. How bad was it beforehand? Doesn't seem a well used road.
