Proposed Increase in Vehicle Duty

So really it's pandering to the person who has multi vehicles, a daily and a special? As long as they have off road parking for the special they are getting the second car at half price???

Whichever car they are driving they are utilising the road system and should pay accordingly???

If the Govt really wanted to help people in this position, they should, perhaps, offer a monthly licence? Just tax your old Morgan for 3 ths for the summer?

Most of us pay a full years tax, I'm not sure we should sub those with special cars?  That is for their ego trip and should our Govt sub them?

PS. especially in the current economic climate!!!!

So just where are all these 6 month taxed  vehicles going to be parked off the highway.

Most of the displaced motor homes from Nobles park are dotted around town/industrial estates/The business park, you will be surprised that these people do not realise they are not allowed to leave an untaxed and uninsured vehicle on the public highway. And they will be uninsured if you only have six months tax you only need six months insurance.

I think the whole point of the six month proposal was to help people pay for the licence the thought being that it would not be such a large amount to find in one bang if Chris Thomas had thought it through and introduced payment by Direct Debit monthly as the Government Department who collects the rates do and all the Commissioners do without too much trouble this whole scenario of people just licensing their vehicles for a six month period thus depleting income from Road Tax would not have arisen.   I hope this silly proposal gets kicked into touch.

Monthly direct debit is tricky as you would have to have a new disc every month

You don't get a new insurance certificate every month when you pay monthly by direct debit ..

nor a TV Licence.

It's just a circle of paper that is now pointless with today's technology and systems

If they are worried about it then they can employ me for a few hours every week and I will check up on taxed/untaxed 6/12 month vehicles on commission - and I wont even want a government pension at the end.

But I suppose that would be too radical an idea and they would rather rely on Joe and Karen Public to report them.
