Birmingham has trams.  I believe they actually travel from one useful destination to another.

That is the big issue with the horse trams, they go from the middle of nowhere to...nowhere! They don't even go past the hotels, they go past the apartments which were allowed to dominate the promenade and end up at a WW2 bomb site theme park!

the biggest issue is thst certain people with delusions of grandeur  and dreams of    running a  metro like tram service on the promenade  which made the distance between the rails so great no other vehicles  could pass  anything on the rails ,  the idiots in the DOI obviously fell for this and it was incorporated in the plan as was the extra heavy duty steel rail  which was welded in Place ,   thats where the money has gone

where a single  light rail  track with passing places  was all that was nessissary  to  secure the future of the horse trams for generations to come and at an affordable price

Heads should have rolled over this cock up !

Its a freaking horse tram!!! not a luxury limousine

True, but its also nowhere near the ride it was before we “upgraded” the prom.

It used to be quite a pleasant trip with kids where you could chat.

Now it’s an awful noise of badly engineered Manx crap.

They need scrapping, and should have been scrapped when the prom was “improved”

The promenade 'upgrade' has basically f*cked Douglas - collectively or individually whichever bit they are responsible for IOMG/DOI or Douglas City Council... the place is a mess.

You say scrap the horse trams? ... the last thing we need to do is become an expensive Milton Keynes .. who wants to travel to (via unreliable expensive transport) to get what is already on their doorstep... we need to up our USP not trash it.  Other jurisdictions capitalise on the things that make them different not bin them.

A cruise ship passenger wishing to experience the unique offering that is eg the Horse tram/electric tram from the arrival port to Laxey or Snaefell has nothing to measure the sound value against - just the experience ... which it appears is becoming priceless..because people like you see no value in it.

And of course things like this will appear to fail when eg a request from a cruise ship traveller in the summer looking for tour options was answered by the  'welcome centre' offering to book them a taxi on arrival.  Nothing against taxi drivers but just dropping people off at an agreed destination is not a tour. Does not exploit the options available...

Businesses on the IOM - finance/gaming etc can up sticks at the click of a mouse... we need to be cognisant of what our natural attraction is and ensure that is supported and maintained.

Yes.  We should definitely keep the horse teams and MER and Choo Choos which am cost a fortune, as a backup for if finance and gaming leave 😂
