Non-Believer
Maybe this is how they intend to fund it. A proposed rise of 600% in tradesmen's vehicle access permits from January. The 600% figure can be found in the link..
doc.fixit
So they are building a new reservoir in Jurby. They seem to have slipped that through, bet it's over budget and late.

They seem to have slipped that through, bet it's over budget and late. MUA press release: Published On: Wednesday 20 December 2023 15:01 Manx Utilities has received planning permission to construct a new 0.75 Million Litre Potable Water Service Reservoir and Pump Station, off the A14 Ballamenagh Road, adjacent to the ex-RAF Parade Ground in Jurby. In conjunction with the new pipeline recently installed in the area the £2.9 million project will improve the quality of supply to existing customers and support and deliver the essential fire-fighting requirements of the IOM Fire & Rescue Service for the industrial estate and surrounding areas. The installation will also enable future expansion of Jurby including the developments identified within the Area Plan for the North and West. It is planned that construction will commence in the summer of 2024 and is expected to take 6 months. The location of the site is such that the impact on local residents will be minimal. Presumably the real reason is to enable the expansion of housing in the area, despite that only being mentioned in passing. I don't think people have been dying of cholera or buildings burning down unquenched in Jurby recently, but admitting that enabling development was the main reason might lead to people asking why the developers weren't contributing. And as the main purpose of the Cannan administration appears to be making property developers richer, that would never do.

Isle of Man Construct are the waste of time, they are only used by Government, Government won't help local builders, just abuse them like this. Unless your a property developer looking for bigger margins.(Tim Johnsons words). Just look at work permits.

I suspect they've just realised that it costs them £1.20 (or whatever) to produce each card. They probably haven't increased the charge since 1993.
