360 View
And its announced in the Budget this week that another unaccountable body will get public funds … https://gef.im/2023/02/21/how-will-mdc-pay-its-bills/ MDC is “owned by taxpayer”, will have to borrow “on commercial terms” (from treasury or otherwise, and presumably joe public pays the interest on the loans for MDC), nothing about what happens to profits (LOL) from this government scheme. And can we find out who manages it (undoubtedly some grandiose title), who selected the manager, how many staff it has, who pays them, how much they get paid or find out anything about its operation? Can we hell! It’s an ‘arm’s length’ body, but not included in the freedom of information scheme … transparency at its most opaque, unless, just for once, gov does the right thing and adds it to the list for foi …. Not holding breath
Katman
Dane Harrop is the Managing Director, they are based on the Third Floor of 22 - 24 Victoria Street in Douglas. You could always write to him with your questions.

Then I would suggest you look at their website. Government don’t pay the salaries, in the same way they don’t pay the wages of people working on the Ben

Not holding breath Round about £120k for the MD and at least three roles at £60k. All publicly advertised. The MD job is supposed to be a three year limited appointment. I think Dandara provided the office space. As I recall Treasury / Tynwald have given MDC around £5million so far.

The accounts only tell you limited information and you still have to pay to view the corporate records in Companies Registry. Why should we pay for something that we, the taxpayer, already own and are entitled to know?
jackwhite
You weren't the guy at the Budget Breakfast were you? He had a pre-prepared speech for question time and wanted to take up the whole alloted time himself, on this which is a small point of the whole thing, even if there is some merit in what's being said. The truth is, I don't know one way or another, having not looked at it.

There is loads of info publicly available. Give them a chance and see what happens. People might be pleasantly surprised. ”If” in three years there is no sign of any progress on schemes or profit, and for some reason they then renew contracts etc and start pumping more money into it, then that would be the time to start moaning. Not now when they haven’t had a chance to achieve anything.

NoTailT
Have seen that Sean Gilbert meeting with Raj Chatha a few times over last few months and some other developers. I sugget accountability is going to be lacking.

Cost recovery perhaps. nd as far as your last paragraph is concerned by the time we get to that stage it will be too late and any funding handed over to maintain those sorts of salaries will have been for nowt, except to the individuals concerned. The people heading up this "department", whoever they are (I don't know any of them and have no wish to) probably can't believe their luck if they fail.

In part you have a point, but unfortunately so far, the MDC have been given a free ride, and have the protection of Government, in the way that the Quango (arms length) has been set up. Would any other developers have had an easy ride, especially with planning?
