So we are still subsidising EV cars for cheaper electricity, whilst those on the breadline pay for it .

I wonder what the MEA charge to Government for Nobles, the central Government Offices etc? I suspect we also subsidise these as well.

Well, not if the electricity is measurably cheaper at night. At that stage, you’re just passing savings on.

Moving loads to the middle of the night also reduces how much peak capacity you need during the day, you don’t have to spec up as much. 

The precursor to TwinHeat is reckoned to have saved in the order of millions of infrastructure costs in the 1990s for mid-Wales.

God help businesses that are electricity dependent, workshops etc. It's not difficult to foresee another flurry of business closures, Rates rises from LAs and increases from Govt Depts to the taxpayer.

Shops and businesses aren't just vanishing but reducing opening hours and stock. I did laugh when our Treasury Minister commented on unexpectedly higher tax revenue. Well duh!! Prices are going up, ergo VAT take goes up, anyone who gets a wage rise pays more income tax and NI (thresholds not raised) even if they have a lowering standard of living.
So its not jsut the energy companies who are takign more of our money but directly and indirectly it is government too.

Like sharks, they need the economy to jkeep moving/growing to survive because if the economy slows down and stagnates then spending shrinks, tax revenue contracts and the chickens come home to roost. It just takes a while for the inertia and confidence to dissipate and it beoems very hard to get going again.

Electric heating  package is cheaper than the EV tariff.   Many places are on it and you don't need an EV ..

Can still use gas for cooking if you want but heating should be electric .

It will be interesting to see what this rise contributes to the inflation figures, those in themselves will instigate a big claim from the PS unions in time. The Govt will acquiesce and further raise charges to pay for it in a vicious inflationary spiral. It all boils down to survival of the public sector and the Statutory Bodies.

Yes, but that is just the Government money merry-go-round and its our money anyway.

Not quite. If the bill charge per kWh was the same as domestic, maybe there’d be impetus to control thermostats and not use windows to regulate temperature.

One of my biggest annoyances as an employer was staff turning the heat up full and then opening the windows.

At least if the charge is the same the merry go round of tax will be met by tax payers, not benefit recipients, and overall electric prices per kWh reduced.
