Nope, try again. Don't you have a carer there that can help you or something?

I don't know why you wont just answer a question. Who is the most expensive?

Oh, and I am the carer today.  Not a pleasant job and not one I would wish on anyone, nor would I use the fact that someone was unfortunate enough to need one as an insult.

Who is the most expensive and the cheapest on that list?  Because looking at it I dont think we are badly off at all, so why dont you explain to me why we are?

Oh you're a carer now. Have they gone out and left you in charge of the cat?

In answer to your two questions.

1) The MUA.

2) see answer to question 1.

It's like pulling teeth!

Off out for Sunday lunch now.

So, how about if I told your that a home uses 2900KWh a year.

At that level of usage we are the fourth cheapest on that list.  If someone uses less, the gap between what they pay and those on that list becomes bigger - in the Manx persons favor.

In order for a manx resident to be paying the most on that list, their usage has to be just over 5000KWh in a year.

You have just been looking at unit prices haven't you  - Ooops.  BIt silly that, especially when you were given multiple chances to explain what you were doing and instead chose to try and mock someone who is a carer by suggesting they needed one.

Have a lovely lunch.  Maybe they do humble pie for desert?

We are on PowerNI at the minute and we pay 28.98p per unit and no standing charge, we had a statements sent out and the total cost from Oct -1 -23 until Sept- 30 -24 was £1024.25 which is quite reasonable, our house on the IOM is £90 per month by direct debit our son is only in after work and at weekends so we are paying much the same here in Northern Ireland.

So, I did spend a few minutes on this partly out of interest, and partly because @A fool and his money..... was spouting bollocks.

I would say we are fairly average usage at 2900 KWh a year, we pay MUA £70 a month.

The total costs for areas of the UK are below based on the figures I found online.  The figures seem pretty accurate based on some shopping around for quotes based on our usage at different UK post codes with different suppliers.

I am not really seeing what the issue is.  Our very low standing charge keeps our lower users (presumably the less wealthy) paying less than the UK and our moderate users towards the lower end of t#what you would pay in UK.

Obviously based on not being on PAYG, I have no idea how we compare there.

Why would anybody "contemplating buying an electric fire for the living room" be looking at UK electricity prices? 🤔

Surely you'd be better served by looking at different models of fire and what the consumption and cost locally were going to be?

I was looking at how gas, wood burner, and electric stacked up but not surprisingly the info online relates to UK prices.

So I checked how those compared to our  local prices.

Turns out we are very lucky and our electricity is cheap, even cheaper if you use it as your main source of heating and get the lower tariff.

Having not looked into it before and based on the moaning here and of social media in general I had assumed our electricity was expensive.  Turns out it isn’t .

I'm on gas ch and now that CURA have brought MG to heel (after a fashion), I find gas prices to be acceptable. I do have a wall-mounted electric convector thing with a simulated flames display in the lounge (it was there when I bought the house) but I've only ever used it once for a period and it made an appreciable difference to the size of the billing for the period (the wrong way) so I just use the ch now.

I have done some research today and will be sacking our gas ch off for electric.

So, I've been out for a slap up three course lunch, couple of pints, long walk round to see some family, nice snooze for an hour and a half - and you're still here carrying on with yourself, still without a clue what you're talking about, still completely misinterpreting the statistics you have supplied.

Here's what you should do. Go and buy your electric fire, knock yourself out. Then you can sit there in front of it in the smug and completely mistaken belief that you are paying less to run it than most people in the UK.
