The Blue Light Hub idea was knocked on the head a while ago IIRC.

Before they moved The DHA down to Cronkbourne - next to the river, that could flood.

Yes I think one of the rotating ministers at DHA reviewed the idea and put a hold on it.

'Douglas Fire Station is no longer fit for purpose. It lacks the space required for the resources housed there and is now deemed to be at a high risk of future flooding.'

Also probably full of ACM's given it's age.
Logic would dicatate a Joint Services HQ at the Quarterbridge with flood mitigation as it has ready access to the TT Course and A5 Castletown Road

They are never going to convert the double roundabout to a single junction until the TT is gone and the Access Road is no longer needed.

Not enough room to park all the police vehicles down there.

And they have already spent thousands of pounds building custody cells at Police Head Quarters.

The CFO, the CC etc are stupidly overpaid as their level of responsibility is tiny compared to their counterparts across who actually earn their wedge.

Another example of delusions of statehood directly impacting the public purse...

you would have thought if they were serious about relocation the fire station , the Old vehicle testing station  would have been easily converted ,  sadly we only  do gold plated  and overpriced government projects   , I always  thought John Hinnigan  was a decent Chief , had lots of respect  and common sense  seems a different  service now ,

How many fires has this has guy actually attended to be deemed chief fire officer?

Not sure that’s relevant at the level of appointment for the position- frontline capability would be at least 2 - 3 promotions earlier. I knew him professionally (not recently as he’s above the ones I deal with work wise) very focused on updating the “old brigade boys drinking club mentality” take a look at who he selected to represent the IOM at the coronation.
He’ll update and upgrade this area of public service quietly with no publicity seeking in a Gary Roberts style.

Best of luck to him.

Local lad who has been in the service for years as far as I know.

How about people are just happy for him and glad that some home grown talent with real local knowledge has the position.  People would be quick enough to moan if they had shipped someone in ffs
