Looks like the police didn't bother with the balaclavas and automatic rifles. I doubt they were taking it too seriously as they are standing rather close to the building.

I would be more concerned for that school going up in flames due to the dodgy looking electrical wiring "fixed" to the front.

A geography teacher hopefully will have a longer career than a lot of MHKs……hopefully…

Your comment implies that they need a high salary in the short term because when an MHK gets voted out (or, in their terminology, made redundant) they will never get paid employment again because in the real world they are completely bleedin' useless.

If so, also it would be logical to pay them a progressively lower salary the longer they are an MHK,

It's an interesting, if somewhat bizarre paper which really has little relevance outside a US context

It’s not even that relevant to the US, given the key findings are from an economist who- a quick Google search shows- has long argued that public-funded schools and universal provision is bad. So of course she’s going to find that collective bargaining in public-funded schools is bad.

I do find it amusing how people can simultaneously believe teachers are overpaid AND complain that schools can’t recruit at these wages.

So a geography teacher, who is expected to know all about drumlins, beaded eskers and terminal moraines (and has been taught how to handle recalcitrant pupils) is worth as little as £36,000. An MHK who is required to know bugger-all is worth £71,000.

er no,  the mhk may get paid 71k but no way they're worth it.

+1 re MHK but £36000 salary is more than many other essential workers can only dream of.

That's 36K from day one.  Right out of the Teacher's training school where they are taught to get kids to pass exams, not to teach them.

Expected salary for your degree.

'The current average graduate salary in the UK is just over £24,000*, according to the Graduate Outcomes report by HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency).'

'Education

There are tonnes of ways to get into teaching right now, many of which are generously funded.

Currently, the starting salary for qualified teachers in England (outside of London) is up to £38,810, depending on where you live. In Scotland, you'll start on £28,113 in your probation year. Newly qualified teachers start on a £28,866 salary in Wales. In Northern Ireland, you'll be looking at £24,137.'

So why aren't people queueing up for the job? Because it's shit and there's constant criticism and hostility perhaps?

Because new teachers will be stuck here after 5 years.

IOM Gov will not allow them to take their pension contributions if they go.   If they want to gain experience of others areas, schools or to gain promotions to Head of Year/Departments etc. the only real option would be to move across / go back across.  There are limited opportunities here in schools.  Why work 5 years here and then lock in pension contributions and start all over again when back in the UK?

do the bastard squad actually do any plod work? They all want to play guns and be on social media instead.

But this thing was pure social media activity which makes it ironic. I’d have to agree with the police in that it’s more likely that some thick-headed chav in Wakefield saw the drag queen reports on GB News and rang it in than some local person. You’re right though in that it can’t have taken much effort to provide a definitive “this is the person who did it”.

I really won't.

You may well be if you are being held hostage tied to a chair in an empty warehouse by a psychopath with a samurai sword You may appreciate the services of a trained negotiator or a expert police gun marksman.

Lets hope none of us are ever in such a situation.
