Aah the old fluoride debate again. Makes you wonder why they are s hell bent on pushing it.

No that point is clear. They’re pushing it as they have no dentists in the IOM and little chance of any more moving here so they clearly want to try to put something like fluoride in place to mitigate the damage being caused to kids teeth as they can’t get adequate dental support. That’s all. Passive preventative healthcare through your tap as no professionals want to work here.

It's not even proven to work effectively in tap water. For every study that says it does there is another that says it doesn't. Typical of IOM Gov though. Can't solve the problem so grasp at any spurious straw to try and spot a cheap short cut.

The studies that say it works are believable and good sources. The studies that say it doesn't generally are not. It has a lot in common with a certain vaccine.

Two million quid to put it in the water. Can’t we get some dentists for that amount? Or a programme of education in schools?

Wow. That's a surprise.  If you think about it though. £2M over 30 years or so wouldn't get you many dentists.

Its not just about dentists and costs though I suppose it will be agrued that its about quality of life. Having a mouthful of fillings at 15 is not good.

As anyone who went to a dentist in the 70’s will attest to.

Plenty of dentists around all. Most of them free.

Didn’t stop them drilling out healthy teeth though and filling them with amalgam.

School dentists were horrendous.

There were some butchers here in the 70s and 80s...got paid for everything done...so they did everything...needed, or not, in many cases.

Agreed.  Barbaric behavior from school dentists has lead to life long problems for some.

Would a local fluoride programme targeting school not make more sense?

I was actually referring to private dentists.

All the kids that went to the school dentist in the 70s seemed to be better off...though still not perfect.

More than you think. They got away with mass medicating the public with the vaccine. Looks like they want to push their luck. What next? Statins? Warfarin? Birth control drugs?
