Slick accounting, tax fiddles and 'overseas investors' (Money laundering to you and me). Who the hell would have put money into most of the lame turkeys that were made on the Island and which went straight to foreign distributors or were never even produced ? The Manx taxpayer did and we got fleeced. Thankyou and goodnight. This stance always bemuses me SMUJ. Whatever may have been considered dubious about the activities of the Manx film industry, the Manx taxpayer did very well out of it. The dividends are sitting in the reserves. There were some locals who got ripped off by other locals. Not a lot in the scheme of things but significant enough for those concerned. Local gypsy types were given control of money beyond their capability, and then their greed took over. On a small Island things like that can have a dreadful knock on effect, and it did. Libel cases on the Island still have to be held with juries. Who would probably know more of what went on than the lawyers.
