Paying a pound to pound the beat..

There is a difference between IOMG offering free parking on their premises to employees, and employees parking on other premises (DBC's) whose owner now wants to introduce a charge?

It is down to the employer how they want to balance parking charges between all their employees  which is a different matter to whether the owner of land wishes to introduce a charge.

ETA not sure why this is confusing, the Police and DBC are separate organisations, not even in the same camp.

It’s worth getting in uncontested just for the free parking. Another £6 a day funded by the ratepayers who pay for their own parking.

Expect you’ll be standing then with all your progressive policies 😂

The police do have their own car park don't they?

Yes , but they are using part of nobles park as free overflow parking, a lot are admin staff or ex senior police doing jobs there on top of very generous pensions.

Fwiw I don’t believe any emergency service workers should be charged for parking as it’s vital they are able to be on duty on time, rather than driving around looking for a free park, then having to traipse to work. If DBC/manx Care/DoI feel the need to raise some funds, then charge some of the staff in non essential roles of central and local government. We’re all feeling the pinch as the cost of living rises, but they perform a vital service that helps us all. Apologies if this isn’t negative enough.

Agreed.  But you are missing the point that DBC has nothing to do with the police.  If the police think there will be an issue,  they should take up or pay for parking permits offered by DBC.

To correct re permits.

Fair point but we’re all supposed to be ‘in it together’. All of the stealth taxes being brought in are ridiculous. Just put income tax up 1p FFS.

The pay and display is being brought in to stop people abandoning cars there which used to happen, hence just £1 a day. It came to committee at the start of my term but the discussion predates it by a few years. Can’t see a reason why we can’t just give them a bunch of little paper licences for free like we have them to park in town. If they need the space, stick it in the window and happy days.

The Pay and Display next to Police HQ is a long way from where vehicles have been abandoned in the past additionally the area by Police HQ would not normally attract parking for users of  Noble Park etc- in fact the only thing nearby is Police HQ.  Occasionally there were vehicles left in the area down by the 'The Hoggery' ... are there pay and display machines going there too? Is this part of a bigger picture?

Thanks for the template. I knew that laminator I got for Xmas two years ago would come in handy eventually.

This one only works in the underground car park on Level 1. You also need your plate registered on the ANPR system ;)

I have used it for walking the dogs in the dog park.  But, agreed  it doesn't seem heavily used
