I suspect they already have.

Just wait until the penny drops at size of lost income from fuel vat and duty as they push green agenda. and the sharp rise in cost of electricity to compensate for it that’s will hit those on lowest income most to pay for those running around in high end teslas

It is a one off fee, and a fairly incremental rise, though perhaps re-testing should be made compulsory on a bi-annual basis for the over 65's if they want to continue driving.

A 26% increase is hardly incremental, it's double inflation.

Take a look at the order paper, all of these fees increased by 25%+

At a time when DOI have been squandering money on trains, vanity schemes and countless bodges road repairs.  It is not acceptable to pass on the cost of incompetence to the tax payer.

And The Motorist's Champion, Stu Peters who will have almost certainly supported this. I wonder what Stu's record of having actually achieved will be, come the end of his term, apart from having helped implement some of the biggest taxation rises ever seen for local motorists?

That would depend on when it last went up.

If it was ten years ago then 25 percent might not even match inflation

Erm, inflation only matters if they keep putting prices up every year and 25% is nothing compared to many food prices rising 70% in last year. As I said fairly incremental, driving is not an essential.

What do you want him to achieve? By not supporting this he would be supporting an increase in costs without an increase in revenue which would result in more money having to come out of the general tax lot to run the test centre.

I suggest you read his pre-election manifesto and/or make reference to his many edicts on the radio in regard to the motoring taxation subject. How the worm has turned indeed.

Let us not forget two things. Firstly Treasury (Allanson) cutting the DOI budget on the grounds that the road network was already "excellent".

Secondly, Chris Thomas' reference to DOI raising charges in order to "meet Treasury revenue expectations", quoted on these boards IIRC.

This is about a big cash cow being thoroughly milked.

Any thoughts on under 25s, Vibey?
