I been told by a member of the crew there trying to introduce 2 weeks on (live aboard) two weeks of.

Correct, confirmed by another crew member. Means they need to stay on board even when in nome port eg Douglas for some reason

sounds like the Manxman  needs to go to specsavers , as her light responsive windows on the flying bridge  are badly effected by the harbour lights at  her ports , preventing clear night vision from the bridge , changing all that specialist glass  will come at a significant cost  , I guess  the windows were custom made ,  the announcement today  that it might take a while  before she enters passenger service  is welcomed  ,

Where did the SPCo mention anything about this in the release today? In any case, if the glass isn't to standard, is that not a manufacturing fault?

wont be a manufacturing fault  but possible wrong spec for  European ports and where many ports have strong sodium lights to illuminate the quayside and jetties  photochromic glass can sometimes react in a  peculiar way  especially in poor or half light ,

Also heard that the the thrusters have been reported as very laggy

They wont be able to make quick corrections or adjustments

It is hard enough docking at heysham at the best of times.

So I doubt whether it's going to be in service over winter unless it's all fixed

The latest update about the Manxman starting service in weeks is technically correct

After all a year is 52 weeks 😉

Reportedly, grumbles about the location of some controls used by the deck crew too, having no visibility of some operations to which they are related.

Seem to recall that was one of the conclusions of the Herald inquiry all those years ago.

The Herald went down because they had command line issues that were changed for the whole industry afterwards. They operated on the principle that unless someone tells you otherwise, you assume a required step is done (in this case the doors being closed). These days it’s the opposite. Unless you tell me, I assume it is not done (doors are still open). They literally taught us this in steam packet training years ago. You can criticise the steamy for many things but not for safety.

every area seems to rely on CCTV and  monitors ,  you can not see the  bow from the bridge , and the mooring lines  passed out via small doors  in her superstructure ,   but thats normal in ships these days , it will be interesting to see manxman perform on  a squally  windy day ?
