Which rather undermines the whole “they’ve stuffed the Steam Packet with idiot civil servants who know nothing of the sea” argument. The MD isn’t a classic civil servant either, what with his degree and career in marine engineering. Still, I’m sure people on Manx Forums know better about ships. Actually if you look at Brian Thomson's Linkedin, he spent almost his entire professional career[1] as a specialist civil servant as a marine surveyor or similar. My point is more that it's not the sort of cv you would normally expect of someone running a commercial shipping company, though clearly there is a lot of related knowledge. But it's not really a matter of whether the appointees have relevant experience, but the influence on them of the owners - ie IOMG. If for example there was a feeling that a bigger boat might be a good idea (no doubt to transfer all that extra revenue-raising population that is going to magically appear) then the pressure might be towards that. [1] There's a 14-year gap between school and university, where I presume he had irrelevant, non-sea-related jobs.

The pictures looked lovely, but to hear the food is good is also reassuring as it was not great on the other two boats.

It left late but not very. Reserved seats in the Niarbyl lounge. Pleased to find it now faces forward and is on deck 8 just below the bridge. Had to smile at the very small hatch in the bow with a short flagpole sticking out of it. As soon as we cleared the harbour the flag disappeared down into the hatch in the best traditions of the service. When we settled in there were less than 20 folks in the lounge when it sailed. But folks looking around the boat came across it and stayed. Three showers in the gents came as a surprise. Going to be very difficult to get us back on the Ben... I’d scuttle it now. 18 hours ago, Gladys said: The pictures looked lovely, but to hear the food is good is also reassuring as it was not great on the other two boats. I ate in the premium lounge when I was on it. My bacon and sausage bap looked like it had been assembled using a trebuchet, but the ingredients were really good and it was properly tasty. Well worth the £5.50. Edited September 8, 2023 by Ringy Rose
