Also it looks as if by the way a relocation is being offered the post is favouring people from off Island.    That does not always work out well as we have seen recently.

They put that in all major jobs adverts

It's to trick you into thinking that the incumbent will be appointed after a 'transparent recruitment process' and isn't just a bung to the nearest Executive Director.

You wouldn't mind but we didn't even make a saving by losing the previous incumbent from Govt payroll, Lole transferred to the ever-growing and all-encompassing Cabinet Office. This place is a civil service empire-builder's wet dream and our politicians clearly have little say or control in what goes on, other than to acknowledge many of the population's concerns.

Lole didn't stay at the Cabinet Office for long though - yet another employment tribunal did for him - even though the government won that one.

I'd forgotten him going when I looked at settlements etc for 2022-23, so maybe some of the other got a bit less than we thought.  Mid-fifties so not retirement.

Whatever it is, they usually need a COO to give them a hand. And, of course, they both need deputies.

What happened in the days when the Managing Director managed by himself?

That happened once CS found they could create high paid roles with impunity - whether they were needed or not...

Jobs for the boys as usual.

It's like musical chairs but in reverse. Everytime the music stops they add another seat and someone else joins the game. That way in a year or two when wrongdoing and incompetence finally see the light of day there will have been three or four subsequent seat warmers involved so the blame parcel can be passed around. Again in reverse with layers of reports and investigations added to the wrapping.

It's only going to get worse with AI as they can churn out endless verbose 100+ page reports that the average member of the public has no time to read and digest. And then double that with a Manx version that is guarenteed no-one will read.
