Is the Isle of Man Government becoming despotic?

He’s a lone voice and he’s not letting go.

All that passive aggressive bollocks directed at him during the covid briefings by Quayle, Ashford, and Henny has made him stronger not weaker.

They’re scared.

Spelled Ashford's name wrong. 😊

Does the Governor hold any power over government? If there is such a thing as a vote of no confidence it would be pointless being put forward via the MHK route. This is another area where our 'government of unity' seeks purely to protect itself. Is there any recourse at all or are we stuck like this until the next election?

It would be good to know who the gatekeeper Civil Servants are, and what the lawsuit is.

No lawsuit will have been launched yet.  What he will have got will be a letter from Callin Wild (who seem to be the go-to people for this) which will probably be both threatening and vague.  Being specific would make it easier to challenge and identify what was actually scaring them.

It's not just that this is oppressive, it's also profoundly stupid.  It's like sacking Callister and expecting him to keep quiet.  And it's the sort of thing that will not only attract attention on-Island, but off it as well.

Just wait until conducts his own interview with Zandra Lewis.. They've probably got one eye on that already.

There'll be a whole committee tasked to bury and frustrate any Abbotswood inquiry, and they'll be on it now. People will go to jail if what's alleged is true and there's a proper investigation from the U.K.

There is a frightening parallel to another thread on MF where we are being asked to “refrain from publicly speculating” about the tragic aircrash by the local plod. Since when has it been a criminal offence to have curiosity?

This os of course more serious as its blows a neat hole in the whole spirit of freedom of information and wait for it..transparency (sorry, a little wee came out then I was laughing so much).

"Frightening"?

One is people being asked not to speculate. Difference between that and a genuine cover up.

Personally feel the former was just to avoid gossip growing it's usual three legs.

Do believe this isn't a good thing though, albeit I think Moulton is a bit of a fool personally.

He's not a fool, but he has a lot of learning to do re his presentation etc. Sometimes it feels as though hes Robertshaw's fall guy, given the way he often cuts him down - which isnt professional. These arent live broadcasts, so theres ample opportunity for there to be a more polished presentation and for Robertshaw not to constantly correct him.
