I really love the way there was a "protest group" setup less than a day after the announcement of the 2 sites chosen to be investigated further. How the F1ck did you lot ever allow motor cars or motor bikes on the rock in the early part of the last century? Never mind, Crogga gas may kick the can down the road................... You can always expect NIMBYs whenever you propose a wind farm anywhere. And people who never go near Earystane will now be going to take a look. I must say 2026 seems optimistic when you consider planning permission and all the impact assessments that have to be done.
ADELE
The British Prime Minister has signed hundreds of licences today for gas and oil drilling in the North Sea over here there is hysteria over one. There is now a petition going on FB regarding the windmills, and the motorhomes what a carry on !
CallMeCurious
Maybe the greens (and pro wind farm at any price) should start a "Earystane is the best place for it" and let the numbers speak for themselves. That's democracy...
philwebs
Here is the future if the incompetent govt tries to play at being a green entrepreneur: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12358735/Tory-council-left-effectively-bankrupt-investing-655m-solar-farm-tycoon-used-taxpayer-cash-buy-12m-private-jet-16m-yacht-2m-Bugatti-Chiron-supercar-instead.html https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/nov/11/solar-farm-owner-toucan-energy-enters-administration-amid-thurrock-scandal https://www.theguardian.com/society/2022/nov/29/thurrock-council-admits-disastrous-investments-caused-500m-deficit "A Conservative council has been left effectively bankrupt after investing more than half a billion pounds in a solar farm tycoon who used taxpayer cash to buy luxury goods including a yacht and a private jet. Cash-strapped Thurrock Council in Essex borrowed £655million of public money to invest in Liam Kavanagh's solar farm business." "A Tory-led council has admitted a series of disastrous investments in risky commercial projects caused it to run up an unprecedented deficit of nearly £500m and brought it to the brink of bankruptcy. The staggering scale of the catastrophe at Thurrock council in Essex – one of the biggest ever financial disasters in local government – is contained in a report made to the council’s cabinet, which reveals it has lost £275m on investments it made in solar energy and other businesses, and has set aside a further £130m this year to pay back investment debts. Thurrock has appealed to the government for an emergency financial bailout and warned that it will have to push through a drastic programme of cuts to local services and staff redundancies, along with a probable fire sale of buildings, land and other assets as it attempts to stay afloat. Council tax rises are also likely." "Rob Gledhill, who was leader of Thurrock council, resigned in September" Gold plated pensions all round for incompetence. The Isle of Man "govt" is incompetent and useless for infrastructure projects. A private company without any "govt" subsidies if needed.

ADELE
Apparently the preferred site down North is not a great idea could affect the water supply and a church would have to be knocked down . So that is one down two to go.

Blade Runner
Are you lot not embarrassed at the quick NIMBY responses to a simple thing like 4 turbines at Earystane or (NOT AND) 7 at Druidale? I really love the water quality bit for the objection to the Druidale turbines, FFS have you lot have got short memories. Druidale farm was leaching all sorts of SH1t into the Sulby reservoir after it was built in the 80s and for years after, AFAIK until it was sorted, if it ever was? 1
