Windfarm could cost up to £40 million

Who was the old windbag on the Moanin line today talking about the NSC and the flooding of the pool and then turned it round to the bases of the wind turbines causing flooding. He said he lived 500m from the windfarm. At first I thought it might be @Cambon but surely not

Anyway he was waffling on about his son in law had told him that when the NSc pool flooded the tank (pool) would have lifted and that why all the tiles cracked. Its called floatation he said, and concrete structures like sewerage(sic) works are well known for this and can be damaged doe to the uoyancy . He said he had showed his son in law a picture of the pool full to overflowing. This he then managed to link to the thousands of tonnes on concrete that will be poured on Eary Stane and how the same could happen causing flooding

Well forgive me if I am not right, but if the pool was full of water how could it be lifted by the weight of water from below and WTF did that have to do with wind turbines

He then said he wasn't worried anyway because he was sure the wind farm would never get built

Sounds like he was possibly half cut again. https://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/999/driver-wins-back-his-licence-2-years-early-226876

I can't understand why Wint let's them jabber on for 5 minutes when it's obvious they are talking absolute bollocks and no one is interested. I suppose it makes it easy for him he can just dose off in his chair. 5 mins nearer to clocking off time

At least Peters would have subtly taken the piss and make it interesting. All Wint does is say nowt and challenge nowt, then thanks them.

A rather off-putting story from elsewhere... "The turbine was in its commissioning phase and was still undergoing testing"

"July 16 (Reuters) – The Vineyard Wind offshore wind project off the coast of Massachusetts is shut down until further notice while authorities investigate a turbine blade failure that caused debris to wash up on beaches, a federal agency said on Tuesday."

"The turbine blade broke on Saturday, and on Tuesday authorities said they had closed beaches on the south shore of Nantucket Island due to debris washing ashore, according to a statement on the Town of Nantucket web site.

“In some areas, significant sharp debris has been observed floating in the water and is often hidden beneath the surface. Small fragments along the shoreline can pose a considerable hazard to swimmers and beachgoers,” the statement said."

If this is what happens while they're still new, what could they do at any other time?

A very very very rare event. Kias are very reliable cars. They have a 10 year warranty. But sometimes they break down.

Yes. It is facing the right direction about 1/3 of the time. The rest of the time it isn’t.

Errr. Wrong. It's facing directly into the wind 1/3 of the time and generally into the wind about 90% of the time. See chart above.

It's what's known as a prevailing wind direction.

Do you understand how funnels work? Obviously not.
The funnel is south west from Earystane. If the wind is blowing SSW or WSW, some wind will be funneled through, the rest will come from other directions due to the eddying effect of the funnel. Wind coming from more than one direct could cause the fan to stall. At best it would seriously limit the efficiency. This is all part of the idiocy that is the Earystane proposal.

The results of wind tests to date do not support you barmy theory

Listening to David Quirk, we now need battery storage and the cost per unit of electricity won't go down due to the increased costs associated with wind generation and storage.

Glad we can finally stop pretending that the purpose is to provide cheaper electricity for everyone.

He did also mention that we don't need a 2nd interconnector.  Surely a 2nd interconnector is preferable to onshore or offshore wind?

It seems I'm also missing this magical funnel?  Where would that be exactly?  You know the turbines can yaw into the wind?

Saw the following recently - Wind turbine vs tornado.  Some incredible footage from a drone.  Interestingly they seem to mostly just fold in half, rather than having their blades shredded, which is what I would have expected.
