Dirty Buggane
Looks like the units on the middle river industrial estates will soon be sought after, because the rates on all the industrial units in Braddan including the office block's in the business park (including DBC headqaurters)are soon to be priced sky high to try and keep the loans serviced. ADELE
When it is built it will require a manager, cleaners and maintenance personnel, all to be paid wages,ITIP,Pension contributions etc. The building is just the beginning the upkeep will be an ongoing drain on the purse of Braddan ratepayers. There must be something in the Manx air that empowers insanity when it comes to spending other people’s money.
Kopek
The Govt are happy to subsidise the NSC, a sport and healthy exercise centre? If the Braddan facility can provide the same, should it not also be subsidised? Of course if it only provides a training ground for excising sports clubs, then maybe not??? CallMeCurious
What I don't get is how you can 'suddenly' be 50% over budget in the last 3 months of the project? So they probably ran out of money 12 months ago and decided to keep on spending? The alternative is they spent the last 6 months trying to cut costs and still ended up £3m short. Never mind, it'll be somehting to look at as you drive on the Braddan Bridge flyover.

Why would they want to subsidise 2 facilities providing the same amenities which are separated by little more than a mile? Plus, one of them is a national facility, run by Govt and qualified for subsidy. The other is a village pump wankfest (though not for the village ratepayers). A monument to colossal, ego driven, parochial mismanagement. 4 1

ADELE
That is true but it is always the leader that gets the flack and he does seem to be the one with the ideas and the most to say.

Clues is in the name ==> National Sports Centre. IOMG voted for it. IOMG built it. IOMG taxpayers pay for it. Braddan voted for it, Braddan built it, Braddan ratepayers can pay for it. Seem fair? After all they've managed to build on a helluva lot of green field sites over the years and must be raking in a fair bit from the commercial rates. If they can't hack it, then maybe Douglas ought to consider a boundary extension like Ramsey are? 1

2112
Braddan Commissioners PR Department seems to be working overtime, publicising the Roundhouse. ‘The Roundhouse is not just another sports hall’ is the headline trotted out in the newspaper headlines. It’s an auditorium as well as Braddan Commissioners are keen to point out. So they are trying to compete with IOMG Department of Education and Culture and the Villa Marina, or competing with the Centenery Centre in Peel? So will any big name acts be appearing at the Roundhouse? Will the dentist provision be NHS only?

Particularly when you're trying to defend the indefensible and a position that any number of people with their heads actually in the real world could see coming a mile off. If it doesn't get the Govt support it's seeking and BC have to put 20% on the Rates as is being "threatened", Braddan ratepayers need to have a good dig into exactly which Commissioners proposed and supported this project and vote accordingly. After buying pitchforks and torches. 1
