Your naivety is touching.

Just one person experiencing a mental health episode, depending  on the circumstances can seriously endanger their own lives and those of others.

Like Gladys alluded to above, better err on the side of caution than risk lives, merely because the Island has a “minuscule” crime rate. That means nothing if someone becomes a real and present threat to life.

Fortunately you're not writing the policy around when to deploy armed police. Anyone at any time could grab a knife and murder the person next to them. Should we each have an armed police escort?

Well the issue is that someone having a mental health crisis is unlikely to have their condition improved by a bunch of thugs with guns turning up.

OK so if someone is having a mental health crisis and is waving a knife around in strand Street for example you'd rather the police just left it?

As for being thugs considering nobody has been shot in the Isle of Man by the police suggests they might actually be decent at their job and know what their doing.

That would depend how credible the threat is, and what resources are required to render that threat safe. Sometimes that'll be a trained mental health professional. Sometimes it'll be armed police. The problem is ensuring that when it's the former, the latter aren't sent.

This is a pretty low bar. Certain tazed dogs might disagree, too.

Maybe just give your number to police hq and they can give you a shout to sort things out.

Your posts are giving me a laugh though so please keep going.

One can only speculate as to why an ex-copper would oppose proper scrutiny of police actions.

No, you know that’s a silly thing to say but if an incident is reported that whoever wrote the policy deems a police armed response is necessary in that situation then it’s good enough for me.

It was deliberately exaggerative, but if your metric is "this situation could go badly quickly", that could apply to almost any situation. You can end up justifying an awful lot of bad things that way.

So long as that policy and its application is under review by an independent body to make sure that it's appropriate and being applied appropriately each time it's triggered.

I'm sure if it was a Drag Police officer with a penis shaped gun it would be entirely acceptable.

I'm not an ex copper not sure where you get that from, maybe your skills on solving everything aren't actually that great.

Do you go round doctors, dentists, shops in general and just tell them how they're doing things wrong?

Oh no, all these years you've spent bootlicking the police on here isn't due to having actually been one? Cripes, how embarrassing.
