EV Island Issues

Ah, The Telegraph. Well known for its anti government stance. Sunak’s fictitious “war on motorists” comes to mind.

Fortunately, buried lower down the article is this quote: “the issue would likely be “short term”.

So a fuss over nothing.
Some people get very cross about what cars other people choose to buy.

I think people get very cross about being forced to buy something that they don't want.

The whole EV industry is in turmoil, manufacturers such as VW, Mercedes, BMW, Ford and Toyota have slammed the feasibility of EV's after being forced to go down a path which may lead to some of them disappearing.

The lauding of Tesla as a car manufacturer is crazy, if their cars were ICE equipped they wouldn't figure at all as a serious player.

I’ve a feeling in a few years EV will be the Betamax of the car industry

The ban is from 2035, if ever. A long time before the bloke on the street has to think about it, let alone get annoyed about it.

I suppose they have a bit of extra time to get the technology sorted, but don't hold your breath.

Manufacturers were faced with the problem of packaging something that wasn't anywhere near practical in a very short period of time and persuading people to buy them in huge numbers. This has practically ruined many of them. Governments have not held up to their side of the bargain, the charging infrastructure is inadequate, the advances in technology are not moving fast enough and people are entitled to be a tad annoyed. The uncertainty of everything is creating unease amongst people who depend on their vehicles to go about their daily lives. Public transport is hopeless and expensive, the world has moved away from housing areas, attempts at 15 minute communities are being touted as draconian and 'big brother' like.

It's just another sign that politicians and civil servants should not be trusted to interfere in anything which requires technical and scientific understanding! Add EVs to a long list!

In your shit analogy that would make petrol cars VHS, (betamax was actually better quality, just not long enough for a movie)  but that is not the case its more like Petrol Cars are analogue tape and EV is DVD, the first foray into digital but still controlled by the old industry, eventually we will have streaming and peer to peer transport systems and no car industry.

yes, but you miss the point, EV is not the solution really it will be more about planning transport and pooled resources. We could cut carbon footprint today just by removing driving licenses of old people who have no need to drive.

or by just making travel illegal , who says carbon is a problem , we can't exist without it.

Interesting the owner of the vehicle that caused the fire at Luton has been arrested

I wonder if we had the same on island with an EV or even an E bike that ended up with a fire, would the engine owner be prosecuted

Want it a diesel Range rover that caused the fire?  If the fire was caused due to something illegal then the car owner will have a lot to answer (whether ICE or EV )

They said the fire was caused by a diesel car not an EV.
