EV Island Issues

Plenty of affordable electric vehicles like the Citroan ami, you can drive that in france at 14. The insurance relates to battery transportation, smaller electric vehicles like these and removable batteries are the way forward, the young have jobs and stuff to do so will always be the priority over old coots going for pointless random drives that just logic.

It might be the way forward for you, but some live in the real world.

"The Ami does not come with airbags, is illegal to drive on the motorway and has a maximum speed of 28mph, so driving this vehicle on roads where the speed limit is above 30mph is strongly advised against."

Yep, we don't have any motorways, so near perfect for the island if your are not fit enough to walk or cycle.

Exactly! It is the young and fit whom should be walking and cycling. Most catch the bus already. God forbid they might have to not look at their phones and check Facebook for 20 minutes whilst driving.

Some people are young and not fit, main thing is they have a purpose.

I guess they are some of the ones older people volunteer to look after because people like you are too busy. Like the kids grand parents pick up from schools for free because parents are too busy. Or the retirees who run the clubs charities for nothing. But as you say, there is no point in the elderly. They don’t contribute. They don’t need to drive. Meanwhile, your car is sat unused all day. Whom is the one who does not need a car?

Are there any Ami's on the island? That have been registered with rock plates?

They are classed as some weird bicycle type thing in England, I am sure they would not be okay on the Rock as you are known for not being up to date.

They are fine with it but its just the same classification as a regular EV just there is no Citroen dealer over here anymore,  the microlino https://microlino-car.com/en would probably be perfect for the Island though really the P50 should be revived, would make a perfect ev.

Isn't there a EV version of the P50 anyway ...I don't know if anyone has it on the island

Like any vehicle it has its niche. It's not a family car like the Leaf, and it's not going to win F1, but then you couldn't fit much shopping in an F1 car. Top Gear says it's a rubbish car but a loveable object, and that it's not fun to drive but it's fun to use.

It's an urban runabout with a focus on utility and low cost. In France it can be driven by teens from the age of 14. It doesn't go fast, the bodywork is plastic, uniform and cheap to replace. It's cheap to insure and cheap to run since it can be charged from the mains and doesn't need much maintenance. Probably useful for urban deliveries, for corporate use, for a rental/car-share scheme for an urban development, or giving to a young driver, perhaps as a safer, drier alternative to a moped for the trip to college. Its cheapness is its reason for being.

It's not going to do ridiculous speeds over the mountain (like a Tesla) but kind of has an anti-style about it, a bit like the electric P50. Would I have one ? No ! But I'm not its target market. It's been cited in this thread as the polar opposite to the old chestnut of "nobody can afford an EV" since it's really at a rock-bottom price, but it's very much rock-bottom facility too. It's 6K cheaper than the cheapest new ICE car out there, though.

Yep so cheap I am thinking of getting one just for the weeks I can't cycle over the mountain.
