2023 Nissan leaf with 10 miles on the clock at £14,990 less than half new price and one for a new Vauxhall Corsa E with a discount of £13,000 off the retail price.

If they say it's not on the Island yet, they say they'll deliver it to your door. when they've received your payment.............oooooooooo!

This Nissan leaf was an advert from Bristol Street Motors and the 44% off the new Corsa was Perrys.

Because a charger could have a life expectancy of 10 years, but five years after it’s installed it’s not really of any use to anyone as it’s so bloody slow.

Do you have evidence of this claim?

History would suggest she's right. And the rate of development in technology is only going one way.

It's not that existing chargers become slower, just that new ones become quicker.

Chargers cant possible become slower that defies Physical Laws

Ok, and is that off peak tariff just for your EV charger or for all your off peak consumption?

Could you use the timer on your washing machine, dishwasher, even immersion heater on the cheap off peak, purely because you own an electric vehicle?

I have the comfy heating tariff ( same as most houses / flats on the island that have electric heating/ boilers). That's not based on EV ownership.

Off peak electric is for the energy use of the entire house ..

As I mentioned before the comfy heating  tariff is cheaper than the EV rates and has an afternoon off peak period as well . Ev tariff doesn't have that. So if the house is well insulated and you can live without gas then that is a better option.

PS: Don't need an EV or solar for the comfy heating tariff..

They will never get quicker. Think about it.

Go on.  I am sure a whoosh is due but can you explain how a brand new modern charger doesn’t charge a brand new EV more quickly than a charger that was fitted ten years ago?

Oh look.  A new 50kw charger at the sea terminal in 2021.

Oh look.  They replaced it with a new 75kw charger in 2023

Showing how quickly this tech is evolving.  That “new” charger is already old hat compared to what is available in the UK and rest of the world.

To be fair, they did relocate the 50kw one to Port Erin Shoprite/Tesco.

Because we are limited by the 2 relationships (as you probably well know)

V=IR (The voltage is the current * the resistance)

W=V*I (The KW is the voltage * the current)

Yes you can put bigger capacity chargers but that's nothing to do with technology, its just to do with capacity. You can't put big chargers in homes unless you massively increase the network size as the network is made for 440V.

Of course you could increase the KW charge rate by increasing the voltage at the house. But again that's a capacity thing and the technology already exists to do this. Its just expensive.

So the reality is that technology is not going to increase the charge rate.

Like I said. Not technology. Just capacity. The discussion was about home charging and the exploitation of tariffs. Nothing to do with commercial installations. You are taking my post out of context.

Nothing new or evolved about it, just more capacity.
