On average, everything we buy on island will always be more expensive than the UK as the majority of it is shipped in. It's highly unlikely any franchise would subsidise the IOM customers from UK profits long term after an initial setting up period.

Sadly home produced goods tend to be more expensive than imported with shipping surcharge  🤔

Seems logical that Tesco would put up the price in all the stores now and begin to recoup the costs of 9 store refits plus whatever they'll be paying to Shoprite.

Excepting that they invest in new stores refurbishments and technology across and don’t get the customer to pay for it immediately in higher prices . That’s because there is far too much competition in the form of Sainsbury’s, Asda , Morrisons, Aldi , Lidl , Waitrose ,Coop and M and S !

101%

The prices will go up because....well, there's no real competition or choice and if you had the opportunity to improve your bottom line without having to put too much effort or money into it, then why wouldn't you? It's quite simple really.

That's simply not true. Manx Meats are a prime example where the opposite is true and I often find the creamery cheese products to be more cost effective than most of the other product stocked by Tesco, not all, but some.

Most local fresh veg/salad is expensive, even potatoes bought at the gate; as are eggs, Andreas meats and even some tea & coffee.

It simply is true in my experience, cheese, milk and butter, local always dearer, Manx meats have recently reduced prices, still ahead of imported though. Flour? best quality and price M&S where bread flour flies off  of the shelves. Best spuds, price and quality Tesco and COOP.

The taste difference between an Allansons of Jurby head of broccoli and a tesco or coop own brand one is worth the extra 30p.

Thats a subjective choice, i have tried neither,  price though is a different matter, not all Local produce is better quality to justify a higher price, Lamb for ex, best I ever bought was NZ lamb.

Tesco today had a large Noa's bread display at the entrance , I had a look, saw the price, walked away, I kept obbo on the display as we shopped, I didnt see a single pick up.

I get the missus to chew it for me.

It's tasty but so bloody tough it's almost inedible. Slightly better if you toast ot

Intriguing. Do you then pass it from her mouth to yours?
