That may well be true, but it isn't how democracy works, nor should it be. Democracy isn't about getting your own way. I've never voted for anyone who has been elected for example, I'm fine with that. But at least my vote has been counted. Many of our most fundamental political decisions (relationship with the EU, involvement with UK foreign policy etc.) are decided in a totally undemocratic manner. I'd far rather have a vote on these issues than a chance to influence who the next commissioners may be - they are much more important and fundamental decisions IMHO, regardless of the result . I really can't see any justifyible reason not to. Democracy is not something to be scared of.

If you look at the Island Plan it's noticeable how few numbers there were in it - either describing the past/present or as hopes for the future. A nice warm word soup is what is preferred to make those involved feel like they are doing something virtuous, with them actually doing anything at all. Measuring and counting stuff might break the illusion. That said, simply because it is something that has been done regularly for nearly two centuries, censuses tend to be reasonable reliable and the delay with something like population details isn't that great (it comes out nine moths after Census Day). There are clearly some problems but it's a lot better than nothing. It's also every five years on the Isle of Man.
Max Power
Hmmm, all these damn foreigners, do we have an IoM version of MI6, or do we subcontract to ExPol?

Also first area to get cut, look at public health cuts many areas of monitoring/surveys

I wonder which local businesses will benefit from doing more trade with Estonia? “The Ambassador’s stated interests for the visit are: digital health, digital industry, defence industry, timber, ed tech.” Its a nice proactive thing and I wonder who had the foresight to instigate it? More of the same please Let the moaning and negativity commence! Is there a link to his visit details?

Couldn't find anything, though the Cabinet Office is getting worse and worse at publishing the press releases they send out. It's not implausible as he made separate visits to Jersey and Guernsey earlier in the year.

Fred the shred
Well if they are showing foreign dignitaries around them I hope they are on our side. Seriously I doubt very few people in the Isle of Man are aware of the specialist stuff engineering companies make and if it is just as well we don’t know then that surely is a good thing.
