Seems to me they go through planning from the beginning and no public money is involved !

If it's viable without taxpayers cash fine.

However "Ocean Castle Limited – which is part of the Tevir Group – wants to build 38 apartments on the brownfield site; the scheme would be funded, in part, with taxpayers' money". 👎

and why is government putting money into luxury apartments  and not into affordable housing for first time buyers

something smells about this scheme , there needs to be a debate in TYnwald about housing priorities  ,and just why we can find money for wealthy second homes  and apartments ,many of which will be owned by companies and not individuals ,

This scheme helps turn ugly brownfield sites into useful buildings.

The building work employs people in th economy and puts money through lots of local firms.  Generating tax revenue and keeping people in work.

That money gets spent back in the local economy.

If people look at the bigger picture then far more than what government put in, comes back into the coffers.

Surely the point is that it does nothing to help those who need it....?

Which should be the priority but apparently it isn't.

The priority is as stated above by CrazyDave with affordable housing an optional part of the package.

In an ideal world yes. But who works in the cafes and restaurants and service industries catering for these higher end workers. It’s flawed and will always be till there realistically have first time buyer properties built solely for just that and not investors . It needs an effort from government to supply cost affordable properties or every scheme they dream up is not successfully going to happen. Ohh , never mind the infrastructure needed to deal with the sundry needs.

While I don't mind the government having a little slush fund for developers to build on old brownfield sites, I would take some convincing to agree that the Ocean Castle site should qualify. Prime spot.

It all tells me there’s a desperation to make Alf’s plan of 15k new population a possible reality. It’s not but anyone with sense can see that. Once again cart before the horse mentality.
thanks Fred the shred ..of course it is

Same as bed nights, positive advertising, VAT , and the other non tangible benefits so beloved by Eddie Teare and others. It may well be true but this scheme and it's taxpayers money should be used for the purpose intended. If Government wish to cosy up to developers then it needs to be in the open not hidden behind some scheme which it doesn't actually fulfil !

Christ knows we've done enough pandering to developers !

But fantasy Dave will know of three identical fantasy developments, all with different fantasy characteristics, all of which make fantasy money for the fantasy developer from fantasy government support.
