At our post office every time I use a tracked and or special delivery service the lady says.. of course those times are not guaranteed ! If they are not guaranteed why the hell are they still for sale at a premium price !

I have always been a supporter of the post office, and used their special delivery service  many dozens of times. The service now is dreadful, everything is taking an age.

Seems the Post Office issues have killed off the fish keeping hobby.

Pets at Home has a limited selection and you've got a 50:50 chance of them dying within a couple of days.  There was an aquarium place in Ballathane, but he closed down about 6 months ago.

Generally more interesting, exotic and marine fish have been ordered from specialists in the UK and shipped guaranteed 48 hours without much issue.  However, now the guaranteed 48 hours is pretty much guaranteed to not be 48 hours.

Someone from the FB community ordered a load of fish last week.  Took 6 days to arrive despite the individual going to the sorting office, they held onto the package over the weekend. Contents obviously all dead on arrival.

Andy, for all I know you could be a competitor seeking a commercial advantage, so you’ll understand that I can’t give specifics.

And there we have - Stu has had his chip changed and has been been updated to the latest MHK- v11.23

Why would someone order live fish via normal parcel service? You can arrange to send parcels for 24 hours delivery which goes on plane, it’s been publicized & I know one local business uses it to send vital deliveries & it works fine.

Just quoting from the FB page.  I believe they've done it quite happily in the past when the guarenteed 48hr was actually guarenteed.  Now it's not at all and I've no idea what you are paying the premium for.  I understand they are now looking into alternative cunning plans.  Pets at Home are going to be sans fish until March too due to some refurb.

Spain is far worse than Bulgaria.

I have no doubt it is. It’s a shame all the Spanish postal practices still exist here too.

I’ll give an example.

Ordered some goods from Amazon Spain. Was able to choose Correos courier service ( which is actually DHL ).

My address is remote. Got an e-Mail to state undeliverable as address didn’t exist. The automated web system is inoperable. The phone system sends you round in circles.

We deduced the packet was at their depot in Constanti, outskirts of Tarragona, and hour away. Pitched up. Had tracking number. No good, they locate using the failed delivery barcode, and as they claimed we didn’t exist they hadn’t left one.

After an hour someone took pity and linked tracking number and handed over. It was packet one of two. Thought we’d lost packet two of two.

Next morning the bell rang. Our local postie. He had the second packet. We asked if we had the correct postal address. He confirmed. Asked why the issue with the first package. He wasn’t polite about his employers.

Hes good. If we aren’t in he leaves a note and drops stuff at the nearest shop with postal collection. We are in 43715 code. Shop is 43816. He should only leave in 43715. Except nearest 43715 shop is 20km, and 43816 is only 5.

Not the first time they’ve told us it’s a non existent address. I now use google map coordinates and ///what3words. It doesn’t help.

Spain has never been good for deliveries. Mañana reigns supreme. We try to anticipate and take what we need or go out and buy it in a shop. If not, live without it. Must be 20 years since we tried to have anything delivered there. It was just the same then.

Yes, but,  traa dy Looar make mañana look like express.

In our early days in Spain, trying to induce local tradesmen to work on the property, I calculated that mañana coupled with siesta is roughly equivalent to traa dy liooar to the power of 4. That is until you start waving euros under their noses and then things start moving like lightning, surprisingly enough. You can't do that with Correos though.

Perhaps it’s because it’s Catalunya. Perhaps it’s because we know lots of the local workmen, we’ve had lots done over 20 years. But, honestly, generally, they’re faster than here.

That being said, had a problem with tumble dryer yesterday. 15 years old. Drum stopped turning. Took photo of model info, contacted Centigrade at 4pm, described problem. Told them I thought the belt had gone.

Turned up an hour ago. Brought belt. Replaced. Fully working now.

The post from Isle of Man used to be excellent, with other than weekends, the regular mail plane ensuring next day delivery to UK. Our firm has benefitted from it. Now we're at the mercy of the next day boat leaving and all that that entails.

There may be a plus side in that mail sent Saturday morning might get to UK Sunday or Monday rather than Tuesday, but that is little consolation.

The situation does not bode well for the IoM, and CI.

It makes very little difference and I say that as someone with 18 years in communications. It's a 1 day delay to post to UK, yes maybe more if the boat doesn't go but the same was true of the plane.

It's actually cheaper to use DHL for some services now, which we have moved to.

Most people now want instant communication so loss of a mail plane has no impact on that.

Yes, not great for parcel post but generally anything I order online still seems to arrive within a reasonable timescale (certainly under a week).

Remember Royal Mail made these changes, not Isle of Man Post. There is still a next day service available using commercial flights, plus several other courier services if something is urgent.
