The "walkmen", as they were known delivered letters and packets only and were done away with as part of a big reorganisation and cull earlier in the year which as you say, results in one man delivering both parcels and letters from a van, in longer daily delivery duties too. This allowed posts to be cut and delivery headcount reduced, just part of an overhaul of working practices which were accepted and implemented.

Yet despite all this and the loss of the work and costs involved with the airmail and the promises surrounding the new sorting machine, the Post Office still can't improve profits.

Watch out for the hike in postal charges in January 😉

Not as bad as Jersey who lost £6m, maybe you hadn’t heard but there was a pandemic for 2 years which meant everyone ordered loads online which boosted all postal authorities for a while but now back to normal levels.

Pandemic conditions were relaxed in mid-2021, that was over 2 years ago. Two sets of profits have been announced since then, the most recent hugely down on the previous. The problem doesn't lie with figures from an artificial boost from the pandemic.

I thought the Gov. took a few million out of any profit for their own coffers??

They reinstated that at the last Budget in February, having previously given the PO a break due to the precarious state of its finances, taking £500,000 which was based on the announced profits for that year.

The pandemic was not relaxed fully until 2022 and there’s still people refusing to leave houses without full masks & gloves!, if you actually read accounts year end is 31/03 so 2022 accounts would have received a massive boost from pandemic, same as uk, jersey etc. Why do you think Royal Mail are desperately trying to reduce costs by scrapping mail planes across UK, putting stamp price up massively, forcing unions into new contracts etc etc.

Primarily to maintain returns for their institutional shareholders who creamed £400M from them last year alone in dividends while Royal Mail pleaded poverty to their customers and workforce alike.

As requested, your quoting a dividend from jan 2022 as a result of the extra profit made during pandemic as I previously stated.

https://www.ii.co.uk/analysis-commentary/royal-mail-loses-ps1bn-and-scraps-final-dividend-ii527933

I am quoting last year as stated, January 2022 a dividend of £400M was paid to RM shareholders. Perhaps if that money had been invested into the company rather than lining the pockets of city fat cats the subsequent losses would have been less or better borne.

Still, the city loves a tame CEO.

You’re quoting results from 2021 eg pandemic bonus profits with payment Jan 2022, the conversation was about the action they are taking now pandemic is over & big surplus profits have gone which is exactly the same position all postal authorities are in but please don’t accept facts , you never do normally!!

How come there is the post office near B&Q and another one for road tax about 100yards away? Looks a bit daft to have two premises so close together.

IOM Post Office Licensing opposite Ocean Ford is for trade and emergencies only.
