Two-lane
https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/council-planning-to-purchase-modern-benches-for-prom/ "A request has been put in by one of the councillors to move some of the seating from the sunken gardens to the prom - something the council has agreed to look into. " I thought it was pleasant to occasionally sit in the sunken gardens and look at the flowers. Better than looking at a seaweed-covered beach. But then, if I were to choose a material to sit on, a lump of concrete would be at the bottom of the list (double entendre intended).

Dirty Buggane
That's a fine idea put the expensive hardwood seating in the direct line of the bad weather. Best thing would be to insure the steel one's that are purchased are heavy galvanised and actually have an maintenance program in place for the upkeep, Or buy the concrete end pieces with pegs and wooden slats easy and cheap to replace(same as what they have on Peel seafront)
cissolt
I was expecting solar benches with USB charging. Concrete seems a sensible, if somewhat uncomfortable. What was the cost per bench?
WTF
to be fair concrete or even recycled plastic benches , or concrete with recycled plastic bits to sit on would be a reasonable idea , i'm sure the concrete parts could be made locally and plastic beams bought in from somewhere like kedel ltd , if they didn't put metal reinforcing in the concrete bits they should stand up to salt water very well. Use the other thread to complain about DBC. As for benches apparently the concrete ones last longer.
Amadeus
It’s proposed that the old KC bench seats are moved more towards queens prom and the new concrete versions used along loch prom. Fylde promenade was given as example of how it might look. Many people use loch prom during lunch and to eat and socialise and the new benches are better for that. Seats can be covered with wood polymer and weather shouldn’t affect them as much as it might do with the old ones. Or so they say anyway. Omobono
I hope the council don't forget that at certain times of the year the Loch promenade is used for parking , thought must be given to the type of seating ,there was nothing wrong with the old concrete supports with wooden slat seating , it was comfortable durable and withstood the winter weather for many years , problems arose when some bright spark put metal (iron) seats down there which have almost rusted away ,sunken gardens is the best place for the seats out of the breeze and a sun trap in the summer and not liable to be hit by cars or incoming waves

Dirty Buggane
More form over substance, people want somewhere to plonk there ass when there little legs are tired or while away a half hour in the sun for a lunch time sandwich. Fuck the uber expensive sinew wave form shite, a bench the longer the better so lots of room. You can guess which we will end up with, hope they remember there is a wall behind bench and not a pleasant open green area like in inner city parks. And as for being told the plastic polymer is the greatest invention since the condom for protection ask which seafront town these benches have been sold to, and give them a phone and ask if they have been sold a pup. They look very hard to clean and refinish as the shite in Regents Street. Me old mate Anton who fitted the wood slats (RIP) said they were crap, what the hell I'm being paid good money its what they asked for. Max Power
Can I ask, is it the Council or DoI that is responsible for the appalling lighting on the promenade? It angers me almost every evening when I see how desolate the Promenade is at night. What was a lovely bay and a pleasant place to be has now become a cold unwelcoming place at night!

CrazyDave
Have the people ordering these new benches taken into account that there won’t be a sea view there any more once the hideous sea wall goes in? Are these new benches to allow people to sit and gaze at the concrete wall? Edited October 23, 2023 by CrazyDave
