Come to that there’s probably a lot of people “actively avoiding the police” on Douglas promenade or its environs who haven’t been involved in any incidents

It’s an odd use of English though isn’t it? A better term might be that the police can’t find the people concerned, or the police have run out of ideas. What the police seem to be doing here is blaming the people they are looking for, for not making it obvious enough where they are.

It certainly doesn't sound like the Police looking for people who have merely crashed / stolen a car and run off, there may be more to it !

It's very easy to be an armchair Police Officer !

Well let’s hope they they stop actively avoiding being caught otherwise the police will completely un-find them at some stage.

Exactly the approach the Bastard Squad have taken- I wouldn’t want to tell Detective Derek or Dog Tasering Schuuuueeeey how to do their job but maybe use a Drone - they’re long gone

Road now open.  Police still “patrolling the area”

What a massive waste of time and money, and another example of making a laughing stock of local plod.

This is pretty simple.

Car abandoned in a remote area after 'police contact' I.e.an attempt to stop it.

Article 2 now in play. However you might think it nonsensical there is now a positive obligation to locate those individuals and ensure their safety. Any offences committed are of secondary consideration.

If in due course a body is found up there, the coroner will inquire whether their actions were reasonable?

Very nicely put Derek, if all “police people” were open and straight talking like that they might find people would have more time for operations like this. All the secret “we know but can’t tell you, nothing to see here, move along” nonsense irks folk and makes the police look childish.

I hope I always was that way when the force PR was part of my job. Sometimes there is a need to hold back detail for evidential/ investigative reasons but otherwise, just be straight with the public. If its an armed incident, say it is (which in fairness they tend to do these days). If it is a crash, say so. If it walks like duck, and quacks like a duck, call it a duck.

There's still a bit of a latent fear of 'saying the wrong thing' in some quarters. The Met have recently had an epiphany and are now very much on the front foot. The policing of the recent Israeli/ Palestinian demonstrations being a good example.
