The police know who these people are as they had already arrested them for bringing a load of drugs into the Island. Unfortunately the court decided they could be bailed, hopefully whoever made this decision will reflect on whether this was wise!

It reads to me, from the avialable information released by the police, that there is a/ no danger to the public b/ the occupants are unhurt c/ they are actively evading the police.  How do you therefore say article 2 is now in play?  There is nothing to say they are concerned for the welfare of the occupants, quite the contrary they are avoiding the police and there is more than one.  So therefore to to use your last question of reasonableness - is the police's actions reasonable if the road closure was inplace to effect arrests rather than any concern for article 2.  It seems excessive and nonsensical on the facts available andlocus of the vehicle.  Clearly there may be other information not in the public domain.

As we continue to hold the road closure in place in the area of The Sloc in the south of the island, we can now confirm that at approximately 00.10am this morning, Thursday 26th October 2023, Officers had cause to stop a vehicle in this area. However, during attempts to stop this vehicle it made off from Officers before being located at the top of the Sloc stationary with all occupants decamped from the vehicle. A road closure was put in place to contain the area whilst a number of Officers could conduct systematic searches to locate them.
At this time we strongly believe the occupants of the vehicle to still be in the area currently contained by the road closure. We can confirm the vehicle in question was not involved in a collision at any point, therefore we believe the occupants to be uninjured but are continuing to actively avoid the Police.
We will continue to hold the road closure in place while we continue to search for the occupants of the vehicle are located. We apologise for any inconvenience to the public and would ask that the public still avoid the area. We would encourage the public not to attend this area to help with the search as we have the appropriate trained officers working to locate these persons.
We can confirm there is no risk to the public

Has the vehicle that 'made off' got a number plate? Maybe the police could trace the owner/driver from that. Or is that too easy?

T%hoimmo............. I'm sure the public would understand  if the Police said that they were trying appprehend drug dealers with hard or soft drugs. The fact that they have not alluded to the seriousnesss of this search means that they lose public tolerance of their actions?

It begins to look like bloodymindedness. Even if it's not. And then the further insult of not allowing the plebs even a tiny indication of what is going on.

Reading between the lines of the latest statement (or rather Manx Radio's report of it), it looks like it wasn't the people they were looking for:

Three men were arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences during an incident at The Sloc last week, police have confirmed.

The road in the south of the Island was closed for most of the day on Thursday (26 October) while officers carried out an open air search.

At the time they said officers were searching for the occupants of a vehicle they had stopped in the early hours of the morning.

A statement issued today says: 'Following their arrest and interview, all three men were bailed from the Police Station pending further enquiries.'

'This was as a result of a large amount of Class A and Class B drugs seized from the area where we conducted our searches during the road closure. We thank the public again for their patience whilst the road was closed.'

Presumably they picked up the suspects fairly quickly, but were worried they had disposed of any 'goods' they were carrying on the way.  That also explains why they had to close the whole road for a day while they examined the road margins for packages or any particularly happy-looking sheep.

That said, if it was that major a drugs bust, you wonder why the suspects were bailed as there's no way the police can sure that they managed to get everything.
