Max Power
I don't feel prosperous, but hey, I must be? The comments are hilarious in many cases, how others see us eh?

The comments are hilarious in many cases, how others see us eh? Well, actually we are compared to the UK, which is one of the most prosperous countries in the world. But people here love to moan and we constantly see people banging on about low wages, high cost of living and high house prices even though the facts are out there in black and white. The island isn’t as bad as the moaners like to make out. I love living here, and we all should.

Casta
Is there still tax relief on mortgage interest, as mentioned in the article. I thought it was scrapped.

And nobody here is struggling to pay their electricity bills with accompanying standing charges, nobody is worrying about their toilet tax and Rates bills in the next few months, their gas bills and their other commodity bills all influenced by freight charges to the Island? And they'll be a whole lot even happier when the new Terminal costs recovery get piled on too, of course? Plus whatever percentage that they've had to contribute to compensation for Dr Ranson, the losses over TT clothing etc? It's all sunlit uplands on £70k a year plus 6% hikes, eh? 2112
Thet article in the Telrgraph, whilst on the surface, elements are true, actual day to day living bear no resemblance to day to day living. The gulf between the haves and have nots are certainly true. Edited November 8, 2023 by 2112 6

Shake me up Judy
The article only looks at direct taxation. For most people on modest/low incomes any benefits are fairly marginal when you factor in other costs of living here. Not sure either how long the Island can sustain a low tax model while running a deficit.

Omobono
its probably someone the cabinet office brought over for a jolly , having wined and dined them they look for a story in return , sad thing is they never get to speak to real people having to struggle and pay for the mistakes and incompetence brought about by our government and its leaders
