It was a farmer with a digger and possibly a quad bike who was a commissioner in Port Erin, those are the clues.   Apparently he wanted to widen the path so that he and other farmers could gain access to their farmland. What an heinous crime.

Isn't there a fear of land-slip..?

If it's true, the person shouldn't be in that position as a commissioner and  should, in an ideal society, face some form of punishment for abuse of their position.

sorry, i don't think so - i think it's glen rushen road because there aren't really any houses up on the sound road and across to the round table. that's not to say he isn't C. X because i have no idea

good the arrogant taxi driving clerk has been found wanting at last

Eta - their public minutes of August 14th state Bridson and a property Sunridge on glen rushen road. So probably a GDPR issue however mystery solved

I don't think ian rush was suggesting that it was the road in that dispute that was at issue, just that Bridson had form with this sort of behaviour.  He thinks he should be allowed to do anything he wants with his land.  And also with anyone else's.

The Clerk to Patrick Commissioners is also Clerk to Marown as well and there got a severe ticking off from the Information Commissioner earlier this year for effectively telling someone sod off when they put in an FoI.  As in this case he then managed to make things look worse every time he interacted with the complainant or the investigating Commissioner.

Yes he's a dick. Good he's being found out.

You can tell that by the language he uses -

Quote

"Your letter of 31st ultimo is acknowledged. The Commissioners have not written to Mrs [N] further to their letter of April 19th because there was at that stage nothing to add to what had been sent before: Commissioners had requested a meeting with DoI which, in their letter of 31st ultimo, they declined. It is noted that Mrs [N] did not revert further to the Commissioners despite being in receipt of the Complaints Procedure. This being so, it is assumed that you are now effectively acting as her representative and the Commissioners therefore respond to you hereunder.”

People only write like that if they want to obscure that they're out of their depth.

Did the FOI ever get answered?

A former boss of mine wrote letters like that. He was from the old school of business, a proper Company Secretary he was. Stood no nonsense.

Patrick Commissioners just keep on providing entertainment:

Three residents from the parish of Patrick have temporarily joined the commissioners after being selected by the Cabinet Office.

It comes after a series of resignations from the local authority following a report from the previous Tynwald Commissioner for Administration, Angela Main-Thompson.

At last night's public meeting it was announced David Talbot, Margaret Killey and Gordon Clague would be 'filling in' until new members were appointed and to make sure a budget was 'set in time'.

Mr Talbot said nominations for people to join the board will be opening later this week:

The only elected commissioner at the meeting was Henry Bridson.

The meeting was started with words of warning from the clerk, Ian Maule, who said the 'meeting is being held in public, it is not a public meeting', and that anyone who is being disruptive would be asked to leave. This was due to alleged distracting behaviour of shouting, during last month's sitting.

A decision on what to do about Glen Rushen Road - the highway at the centre of Angela Main-Thompsons' report, was debated intensely.

There were calls for the report to be challenged by a petition of doleance, after Margaret Killey said it was based on 'hearsay' that Commissioner X had carried out work for his and his neighbouring farmer's benefit.

There was also a back and forth between Henry Bridson and Mr Maule, about how much money was planned to be spent and whether the work carried out by the contractor was 'authorised' by the local authority.

It was revealed that there were no 'formal' contracts in place and work individuals offered to find contractors for, wasn't run through the clerk.

Ms Killey cited other times when this had happened and said a 'precedent' had been set and called it a 'diabolical' way of working as a local authority.

The remedial work which is due to be carried out on Glen Rushen Road was quoted at £41,000, potentially having to be paid through the rates.

A resolution was made to meet with the Department of Infrastructure to see what could be done about the road.
