Capt_Mainwaring
I stand corrected, you learn something every day. Where do Tindall come in to it or are they not involved any longer?
Manx Bean
I’ve been on both sides of many “Awards” events. In the main, they are a construct to give the host some PR and a free piss up for all their staff by giving a bunch of mugs with huge egos and deep pockets the “opportunity” to sponsor an award/several tables in exchange for a pretty reasonable chance they will then “surprise, surprise” win a worthless accolade and some resin thing on an plinth to sit in their reception area gathering dust..

It is of course described as "glittering".

Numbnuts
Shouldn’t need an award ceremony to let everyone know who’s done well. Their deeds should speak for themselves. Not sure how Steam Packet were in the running but hey ho. As for the rest. Tad incestous one feels ..Quite sad really . Banker
It’s had its day in present format, if it’s to continue it needs to just award charities, small businesses, individuals for public service eg police, nurses, ambulance staff etc. no government, local authorities etc. also application form needs to be simplified as basically discriminates against anyone who hasn’t got time , resources etc to complete the complex process 1

The explosion of them was a thing of sometime around the turn of the millennium, and it was just as crass then as it is now. I bet the people they hire to MC the proceedings are quietly pissing themselves. I've been expecting somebody from within the crazy tent to come forth with the contrary view that it's all wonderfully worthwhile, but maybe there isn't such a view even there. It's a shame for people who receive richly deserved awards for bravery and making sacrifices for others to have them blemished and devalued by this kind of tomfoolery. cissolt
No awards for manx care this year? I seem to remember the mcals team were nominated in the best startup category, it's a complaints phone team not a bloody tech startup
woolley
They should liven it up with a few additional awards. Least visible politician. Smartest tram horse. Best pub brawl. Most outrageous retail price. Excellence in doing nothing while employed. To name but a few. Edited November 17, 2023 by woolley Punctuation between categories so as not to suggest brawling between tram horses outside pub. 2
