Nellie
Visited Laxey Promenade today and was amazed to see that Paul Carey had several pieces of heavy plant hard at work, digging out the hundreds of tons of stones that had built up against the sea wall, over many years. Instead of the beach being more or less level with the pavement, it is now around 6 feet lower. This has exposed the sea wall, steps and large swathes of sand, which have not been seen for years. It appears that the stones removed have been dumped at the northern end against the outside of the breakwater. I'm curious who has commissioned this work, presumably DoI or Garff Commissioners, and whether we might see something similar in Douglas, on Central Prom? TheTeapot
Be interesting to see how long it takes to build back up again.

It’ll take years which is why Douglas should follow. If it doesn’t work then they can re-evaluate but until then they should park the idea of spending a million 3

But I'd imagine we are talking years, rather than weeks or months, to get back to how it was before they started. Anyone with an ounce of common sense, and/or financial responsibility, can see that this has to be worth trying, before we begin building bigger and bigger walls. 3

Anyone with an ounce of common sense would notice the Douglas Beach is now nearly level with road from the Palace onwards to the War Memorial, digging out will achieve nothing next storm all back in again. You have all heard of rising sea levels. Best way is a mini reef offshore around the bay to break the force of the tide or steps up to the sea wall as have been used in many locations to break the force of the tides Edited December 1, 2023 by alpha-acid
Kopek
With climate change and rising sea levels the whole of lower Douglas will be under water in 20-30 years!!! It is pointless to sp0end resources on Douglas beach or any sea level coasts around the Island Laxey included? The advantage of this is that Upper Douglas can have more resources spent on it, less dog poo and repaired pavements and we'll be 'alright Juan'. What can we do about Nature??? 😀
