Kopek
You pedant! Can we really separate local and central government for their actions???

You have all heard of rising sea levels. Best way is a mini reef offshore around the bay to break the force of the tide or steps up to the sea wall as have been used in many locations to break the force of the tides how does something that has taken decades to rise to its current level through many storms and tides suddenly turn into something that if removed or returned to its position from decades ago suddenly become something that will be back where it is now after one storm ? water getting a few mm deeper doesn't mean the sand and shingle rises 10 feet. have you already ordered the concrete ?

Instead of the beach being more or less level with the pavement, it is now around 6 feet lower. This has exposed the sea wall, steps and large swathes of sand, which have not been seen for years. It appears that the stones removed have been dumped at the northern end against the outside of the breakwater. I'm curious who has commissioned this work, presumably DoI or Garff Commissioners, and whether we might see something similar in Douglas, on Central Prom? I was there as well in afternoon, looking good although all the flies they disturbed were annoying! 1

A bit of preventative maintenance maybe two or three times a year when it’s a much smaller job than the mammoth one they have left themselves with now, will keep the levels down like is used to. 7
Fred the shred
If it was my decision I would give it a try, however we will no doubt be getting a wall.

It's like everything else that's been left to lapse over here in recent years and which now takes huge expense and effort to bring back. Plus the irony of the tractor down there every week, playing with the seaweed. It could more usefully have been moving the sand. Typical crayonista nonsense, it's about time DOI and DBC stopped spending money on this type of nonsense.

Fred the shred
How strange that the seaweed they have in Jersey is suitable for fertilization but ours is not. It does make you think 🫢 .

I think it’s to do with the creamery pipe for waste products going into sea which according to DEfa makes it unsafe for putting on fields which could be used for food production.
Fred the shred
Yes that could be the case for Douglas but there are other beaches on the Island that have a sea weed problem .

You have an architect on council who will swear that getting rid of the groynes is the best thing they’ve done in a while. While it looks to most people that it’s got infinitely worse since they removed the groynes. Someone then gets a contract to shift shit around for a decade or so when really maybe they should have just got Island Drainage down there for a week with a team of diggers to dig it all out and see what happens before the taxpayer spent a million quid on a wall that’s going to block the view.
