Laxey Beach

Will be well to late, contracts signed palms spit on and shaken. They have dreamed of this wall since Peel city had one, The capital ain't going to be outdone. I am also not seeing the need for a continuous wall down at the bottle neck, or is just to infill the railings which whilst being galvanised the wall fittings used were just bog standard 10mm nock in fixing bolts with a piece of untreated  angle iron and steel bolts. They really are that stupid and they wonder why the rails are failing and the concrete walls are blowing out with rust, especially after getting said rails galvanised at god alone knows what cost.

Anymore money thrown at that dirty shitty old beach is dead money.

Comparing this to Douglas; are they for the same purpose?

Laxey Prom doesn't really flood, or if it does, it's not stopping a major traffic route.  Isn't this just to limit the amount of pebbles that get flung off the beach?

Douglas needs to stop the water coming up onto the road and sinking the sunken gardens.  Digging out the pebbles isn't going to stop that.  Unfortunately you'd need a wall - although maybe a temporary one just for the winter might have been an option, like those slot in flood barriers for doors?

Similar to Douglas though, the problem is that they have built on what used to be the beach in ye olde days.

so can we convince the idiots  in the DOI   and the City fathers on the corpy   that they need to try this on Douglas beach  from the Casino to the bottom of broadway before spending £ 1 million on a silly wall

dunno about that , they'll probably find a contractor to pay 2 million to just to move the sand and shingle.

Laxey Beach is a lot longer than 150m - more like 400m. The problematic part of Douglas is from Broadway northwards, to around the Palace. It’s a similar length.

The Promenade, from the Shed to the Harbour is 200m.

I'm still surprised this is all the stones they've dug out.  It doesn't look like enough.

That's a lot of gravel/stone considering that end of the prom (against the harbour wall) had very little stone prior to the levelling.

And it seems they are done for now at least, as all of the equipment has been removed.

What they’ve done in laxey can only improve things and really worth ago, I believe like many others they should dig out Douglas beach as well and as the Wilf chap said on the mannin line take away the stones for processing.

So many people think this is the way to go for once and if on the very slim chance it didn’t work out i am sure vast majority would have said well we tried before the gold plated option wall goes up. What about some Anthony Gormley type concrete statues spread about to create sea gronyes to stop more drift or is that to far out an idea.
