Katman
I know Mr Peters frequents this forum, so thought it might be the best place for him to answer some questions. I run a small online business, mostly selling to the UK, but I often send orders to places as far afield as Australia, New Zealand and even the Falkland Islands. Most of my packages are large letter size, some are larger and occasionally may be around 15kg. The only delivery service I use is Isle of Man Post, which feeds into Royal Mail. I tell my customers that their orders are being sent by 1st Class Post, UK customers expect their orders to arrive within a day or so. However now post no longer leaves the Island by plane, if I post something on a Monday the earliest it will it will get into the UK post system is around mid-day the following day (subject to ferry sailings). Question: If I post an item on a Friday, when does it leave the Island, is it on the Friday evening ferry, over the weekend or not till the following Monday, which means it won't actually enter the UK post until Tuesday (five days since posting). Question: How can Isle of Man Post promote a 1st Class Service when we are really getting a 2nd Class Service? Question: Has Isle of Man Post investigated running an actual 2nd Class Post for large letters and small parcels, with such items only leaving the Island say twice a week on known days, so sellers like me, know when things will be leaving the Island and plan accordingly? For small businesses the cost of postage is a large expense and competing with UK businesses that have the benefit of faster post and a 2nd Class post system, is difficult. Banker
Why don’t you just email him or post office instead of starting another anonymous MF thread?

asitis
Another anomaly which is annoying , I used special delivery an awful lot when sending valuable stuff to the UK. It now is a two day service instead of one, but the price has remained the same , I asked why the price was the same and was told ahh but we've upped the compensation on the basic insurance to £750.00. Sorry but 1/2 the service for the same cost !

Ah, posting a letter, well that will never arrive any time soon, the post office has gone to complete shit in the last few months, 48hr service is more like 7 days, have had to give up selling anything of low value on ebay as I just have to refund due to late delivery. Ringy Rose
It’s really annoying that Royal Mail decided to cancel the mail planes. Really annoying. But that’s what happens when essential public services get privatised for the enrichment of spivs and shysters. IOM Post Office didn’t get any say in this matter, nor did the postal services in the Channel Islands. None of this is within the control of the IOM Post Office. For retailers, there needs to be better expectation management about delivery times. Products from the Isle of Man will take longer to arrive. Although I have to laugh at the idea of UK people “expecting” next day delivery- I don’t think anyone who uses Royal Mail has expected that for at least the last ten years. If time is of the essence, it might be better to use a specialist courier service. Maybe not Evri though. They make Royal Mail look competent.

I don’t see the point at carping at Stu Peters for something that is entirely outside the control of the IOM Post Office.

Andy Onchan
To say that it's all down to RM is to ignore the fact that the withdrawal of the "mail plane" was unexpected, it wasn't. The writing was on the wall in the early part of 2023.

Sorry but 1/2 the service for the same cost ! Best of luck claiming anything off them. I received an item 'special delivery', dumped outside my house, damaged. Response to a claim is basically TTFO. Use DHL.

Customer service aint going to answer any of those questions. yer muppet, I had them telling me my 48 hr shipment was actually parcelforce and it was nothing to do with them, thats how clued up they are, I had to tell them just key the tracking number in and see what happens... 'Oh yeah, that is us no idea when it left the island sorry give it a week and make a claim'.
