Are the pubs open yet?  It’s Christmas Eve so time to socialise.

You’re simply a laughable online fantasist. What can any comeback possibly be when you won’t even stop posting when you said you would never post here again having been proved to be a fantasist?

You appear to agree with John that they are easily faked.

In that cases when someone else is saying they can’t and asking how they could be, then the standard comeback in a discussion or conversation is to answer the question asked or back up what you are saying in some way.

its not that complicated a concept.  Most people do it thousands of times a day without even thinking about it.

See. I even just did it in this post.  Easy

Am I missing something here with this DigitalID thing because I don't see the problem?

What is wrong with using a physical ID? Yes, it can get lost but then it can be replaced.  An identity card or even a passport or driving license isn't a problem to carry around for the several years it might be needed. You're 'lugging around'. Stick it in a coat.

I just get the sense that there is a push to make so many things electronic but some of it isn't a solution.  It makes money for people and gives people jobs to do in creating it but aren't the costs greater?

I'm only thinking that this is just yet another place for data to be breached. If we are all resigned to the reality that our personal data is at risk and that this is not going to change soon then that's fine but I'm assuming the general desire that breaches shouldn't happen and should be prevented from happening.

Unfortunately they'd need some Govt involvement to get it operational and the most pressing things they've got on the agenda at the moment seems to be stopping the development of anything that the Victorians would deem modern.

Are loans on offer?  I thought new businesses could get a loan from the government.

Yoti is already pretty big and used elsewhere successfully, as are other digital IDs.

It's not the business that needs help, its the implementation and acceptance of it. Which needs Govt to do something.

Though it may successful, in the sense of how much it is used, I don't understand how its benefits outweigh the risks. Again, I don't see how it provides much of a benefit in comparison to the possibilities and likelihoods of a data breach.  Maybe I am exaggerating the risks. Maybe they're not holding anything unique and more sensitive than the data held by many other companies where there have been and will be many breaches.

People don’t carry wallets anymore.

These can’t be faked.

Its a win win for both sides.

We are, yet again, solving a problem that doesn't exist.  On what data set is this decision based? And by whom?

Since covid the police have revelled in their increased power, see the port security and sea patrol, this is just another extension of it.  First stop over 18s, next stop digital id for all.

Dude.

You upload your docs via a secure app for verification.  This includes a photo of you that has to be verified as a true likeness.

When someone wants to check your ID in person they use their unique QR code that you physically have to scan in front of them and it tells the app the age you need to be verified as being.

Without you or them doing anything else on the phone and in front of their very eyes it then loads a pic of you that has been verified and needs to be an actual likeness before they will let you in/buy something.

At that point it tells them if you are old enough or not and they check the pic against your actual face.

So yes.  I don’t think John understands the process and if he does I am interested to know how you “pretty easily” fake something that has been developed by some of the top people in the world to specifically not allow that to be the case.

Or just use the fake ID you have been using for months.
