Heinz soup, 400g tin, any variety, £1.80. Tesco own brand soup, 80p for 400g tin. I can't distinguish much difference in taste. Who in their right mind is going to pay £1 more for a tin of soup? There's plenty of other examples too. Before price hikes over the last 18 months that soup was under 50p, or you could have 4 for £1.60. I was in Shoprite Victoria Rd last week for something Mrs W wanted urgently. Not been in there for years. I was shocked at how much more expensive the Shoprite Tesco prices were compared to the Tesco Tesco prices. The mince pies on sale for £1.09 at Lake Road were £1.29 in Shoprite, for example, and they were piled up in an offer like they were giving you something. I guess for the moment that Shoprite still need to make their margin?

Which suggests considerable over-ordering, as certain other items (eg puddings) being already reduced before Christmas may as well. But there are still discrepancies, whether it's policy or disorganisation it's probably too soon to tell.

It's an Aldi price match. Mrs W is a fan. ETA: Additional thought, it could be a Clubcard thing? Don't take any notice of the non-Clubcard prices because we don't pay 'em. Aldi price matches are not normally restricted to members though. Edited December 23, 2023 by woolley

Thought maybe the financial change might be the end of the year seeing as Shoprite ads are still running in press and on radio, and they have said that gift vouchers are redeemable only until the month end. Maybe they multiplied the amount of stuff they sent over to Lake Road by 10. 🤣🤣 They have done half price meat at Christmas for the past couple of years though.
