Secondly, then Minister for Policy and Reform squashes it on the grounds it would be "unsettling" for the CS. The poor, comfortable, threatened darlings had CT wrapped round their little finger then as well. Edge has since raised this again, just before the 2021 GE. A committee was promised to investigate the concerns forwards as her thoughts were shared by other MHKs. Guess what happened? No committee, nothing, zilch, nada. Now there's so many of them that we need another 54 to administer their every need, a recommendation that Govt dare not ignore because it commissioned the report itself and the potential consequences if it did. When are people going to wake up to what is going on? CT is an impractical expert chatterbox. When he is a Minister for ‘something’ he behaves like a mouse, just like the rest of the CoMin, but when he gets chucked out of Government, when he is an ‘independent’ MHK, he immediately dons a Superman cape, hits the Manx Radio airwaves 24/7 and dispenses his wisdom about how things should be done. I wonder how his Masterplan for the Airport, which could cost up to £300m, is coming along? Was he pushing for the Airport to be operating at ‘arm’s length’ when he was the DOI Minster? I bet my bottom ‘dollar’ that if/ when the Airport’s foray into the ‘privatisation’ goes awry he will be one of the first people to criticise the Government. CT( "Member of the House of Keys 2013-date") has been able flip flop from being ‘responsible’ to ‘not-responsible’ for delivering (something, anything!) substantial and not been held to account for anything that has occurred in Tynwald over the last 10 years. 3

Ramsey had one like that. He ended up as Chief Minister.

Then an external body needs to review departments. Problem is that if you cut too many CS then tax take falls, possible impact on local economy with less spending, working population falls so not as easy as everyone thinks The CS are also the largest voting lobby on the island, which I suspect is why nobody has suggested it for some time. A freeze on recruitment for non Frontline service should have been mandated two years ago. Currently 101 vacancies on job train, 45 for DHSC and Manx care. The remaining 56, all over 30k are unnecessary.

She listened to the southern electorate who were about to see their convenient local amenity (that they contributed to with their Rates, albeit insufficiently perhaps), taken away from them with little discussion or debate, in the name of central Govt's nefarious dealings with public finances which remarkably never impacts upon themselves. The spineless idiots are those who have failed or deliberately ignored their oversight responsibilities in public financial matters in the last 25 years. 4 2

Ah, right. So our public sector is in reality a magic money tree. All is well then.

Gladys
Politicians, particularly Ministers, need to look at the fallout from the Post Office scandal. If ever there was a text book example of politicians failing to question and challenge the CS, that is it. Not enough to say 'well, that is what I was told by my department'. 5

On the occasions when they have, and I can think of two straight away, the only thing they have done is protect themselves and their own existing interests at the expense of other public servants. Any review needs to be done externally, dispassionately and independently.
