Two-lane
From the above news article, published in 2017. What is the ratio now? "The UK has one civil servant for every 116 residents but here in the island, with 2,500 civil servants for a population of 83,341, the ratio is one for every 33."

Stop cow towing to these people, it's Mrs Edge, formal, or Julie as a representative of the 'people', we put her there to represent us, we do not owe her any elevation in her status above polite reference!! Right Honorable my arse!!!! 😀 Julie Edge is only the spokesperson, the decision was made by COMIN based on the report. The other members of COMIN have been very quiet on the matter

Secondly, then Minister for Policy and Reform squashes it on the grounds it would be "unsettling" for the CS. The poor, comfortable, threatened darlings had CT wrapped round their little finger then as well. Edge has since raised this again, just before the 2021 GE. A committee was promised to investigate the concerns forwards as her thoughts were shared by other MHKs. Guess what happened? No committee, nothing, zilch, nada. Now there's so many of them that we need another 54 to administer their every need, a recommendation that Govt dare not ignore because it commissioned the report itself and the potential consequences if it did. When are people going to wake up to what is going on?

No big organisations go through their staff one by one and regrade. And then if you get the wrong consultant or a vague remit you'll get recommendations that the pay is currently too low, or we need more HR staff, etc. For effective reduction either some form of recruitment freeze/salary cap would be required to force Departments to make tough choices. Performance based pay could be implemented but is unlikely to significantly change overall numbers.

We are a completely different setup. What are the comparative ratios UK vs here for the below? Do you want to cut those as well? Police Firefighters Teachers For info the government of Jersey employs 9,000 people

It's been roundly ignored and circumvented ever since its implementation. This quote is from 2021 when what was promised has never materialised either. Are you going to back that nonsense up with anything? Crazy Dave does have a bit of a point, in UK public sector is 18% of workforce, 23% of workforce in IOM so not completely out of whack the 'civil servants' one is just distorted by differences in classification. Under 17% in Jersey though so definitely room for 'right sizing'
CrazyDave
Maybe a large civil service can make somewhere the best place in the world to live? Would there be a valid argument against that if it was managed well? Edited January 19 by CrazyDave
